Ohio Vote-Challenge Effort Hits Another Roadblock
Source: New York Times

The Department of Justice will not require Ohio to disclose the names of voters whose registration applications did not match other government databases, according to two people familiar with discussions between state and federal lawyers.

8. Love It!
What a difference from Darth Vader II, alias Ken Blackwell, and Jennifer Brunner.

Repukes are all about limiting the number of voters, particularly minority voters and other likely democratic voters, to the extent possible.

Jennifer just wants to allow all Ohio citizens to cast their lawfully allowed vote - and is being fought tooth and nail because of it.

10. Republicans now officially the party of Government Intrusion?
I suspected as much (as Bush/Cheney haven't been very subtle, increasing the government in size and scope).

But, still. Let me get this straight...

The "small Government" people now are demanding that the government start providing lists of everyone whose personal information has a typo in it somewhere?

So those lists can be scrutinized?

So the people named in those lists can be poked and prodded and persecuted, kicked around like a political football?

So they can name names in their argument to disenfranchise as many voters as possible?

11. Read the last bit:
"The Ohio GOP remains unconvinced, however, and on Tuesday, it stepped up its public relations campaign on the issue. In a radio advertisement it accuses Ms. Brunner of ignoring the problems with voter registrations and “concealing evidence.”

The ad opens with the sound of a ticking clock and asks, “Could Ohio’s election be stolen?” "

Give me a break!! I hope most Ohioans see this for what it is. It does set this up for the GOP and Bush to proclaim the election a fraud though. fuckers.

17. THE Ohio state voter fraud allegations...
As an Ohioan I sincerely hope that we have registered to vote "legally" this is a big deal and if you have any concerns it is to late to do anything about it. Go to your polling place and vote if you can. There is no more time for second guessing, these threads mean nothing, GO AND VOTE, YOU CAN VOTE NOW! Go to your court house with valid identification, we must do what we can when we can! Democrats are being discouraged at every turn metaphorically and literally. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!

I read a year ago that * made a deal. If he did then this all makes sense. Otherwise, it's a ploy for something more sinister. I truly believe they will not leave without a fight. JMO

16. Three Minutes To Vote
I know this isn't the best place to post this, but I haven't posted enough to start a thread.

I was just reading that my state, South Carolina has a law that gives you only 3 minutes to vote. From the South Carolina Statehouse Report ...

OCT. 22, 2006 -- Here's a dumb law that needs to change: In South Carolina, you are only allowed three minutes to spend in a voting booth to make your choices for candidates and on ballot initiatives.

http://www.statehousereport.com/columns/06.1022.voting.htm

I'm not a stupid person, but it took me way over three minutes of reading one of them, over and over because of the convoluted language, for a constitutional amendment. I'm still not sure if I understood it correctly. Being a "RED" state, I wouldn't be surprised if this will be one way of intimidating voters in the predominantly "BLUE" counties.

Here is the language of one of the amendments:

Must Section 16, Article X of the Constitution of this State relating to benefits and funding of public employee pension plans in this State and the investments allowed for fund of the various state-operated retirement systems be amended so as to provide that the funds of any trust fund established by law for the funding of post-employment benefits for state employees and public school teachers may be invested and reinvested in equity securities subject to the same limitations on such investments applicable for the funds of the various state operated retirement systems?

Huh?

Do other states have this 3 minute restriction?

ZW

22. Score another one for Jennifer Brunner!!!
She is one of the best things to happen to Ohio!!!!

Her campaign promise was that Ohio would not be in the headlines in 2008 because elections would be run cleanly and fairly. She hasn't managed to keep Ohio out of the news, but she sure has fought hard to make sure Ohioans get to vote.

As to the whiny Republicans who can't suppress votes and harass voters (btw, the now notorious JOE THE PLUMBER was one of the people with a discrepancy in his registration ... perhaps he struggles to spell his own name??), GIVE ME A BREAK.:nopity:

"The ad opens with the sound of a ticking clock and asks, “Could Ohio’s election be stolen?”

Now who would know better than the GOP that it can indeed be stolen! What disingenuous bullcrap! But funny!
