Daley Predicts 1 Million At Obama Election Party
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 02:47 PM by brooklynite
Source: CBS 2 Chicago

Mayor Daley predicted Tuesday that more than a million people would descend on Grant Park for Barack Obama's election night "celebration" and said the city has no plans to screen people entering the park.

The mayor said "everybody's talking about" the Obama celebration.

"It's gonna be surprising. There's gonna be a lot of people who will want to come down and celebrate…We hope it's a million or more. It would be wonderful."

The Chicago Sun-Times reported this week that the Police Department's retired resident expert on security planning has been hired back-this time on contract—to quarterback logistics for the Obama rally.

13. Celebration
They better damn well have metal detectors there or Obama needs to be so far away from the audience that he can't get hurt. HOW DARE MAYOR DAILY SAY PEOPLE WOULD NOT BE SCREENED. THAT'S AN OPEN INVITATION TO NUTBAGS.

27. Have you ever been to Grant park?
it is a park that runs along Lake Michigan and bordered by the Loop. NO Way you could restrict entrance to the park. I'm not sure this is the best place, but sounds like on hell of a party. And as a Chicago native I sure wish I could be there.

9:30 EST? Seems a bit late in the evening. Where are a million people going to congregate while waiting to enter the park?

6. No plans to screen people????
After all of the shit this last week? And why announce it. It takes a lot of guts for Obama to speak in front of a huge crowd. Oh and BTW Bush is trying to get a bill passed that will pardon him and his cronnies.

10. Hope the election isn't STOLEN and we lose
I know this is VERY negative but I have sick feeling in my stomach and Osama bin Forgotten hasn't made an appearance YET ( I think Bushie called him and told him to make another video for Tuesday morning 11/4 so all the pukes will vote for Grampy AND PSYCHO)

I just don't have a good feeling despite the polls.

it would be virtually impossible to screen that many people in that location.

32. No.
I can remember an America where people were allowed to ride a subway or gather in a park unhindered and unaccused.

I really want that America back for my kids.

15. Sounds great, though the non-screening thing is scary as hell.
Especially that night - who do you think will be #1 on the hitlist of every racist nutjob in the nation?

It would be horrific if something happened the night he was elected. I really hope they will reconsider, and that his people will pull him out of there before the event if anything does not seem 100%.

16. the Obama Campaign is too smart...
Daley should not have said there won't be screening as that practically invites the crazies to come out. I also think the estimate of a million is too high given the lateness of the hour, but who know? Maybe the fact that history is being made will result in such a huge crowd. My guess is that there will a lot screening going on to get anywhere near the stage area, and a ton of security around in general. I think everyone involved is smart enough to realize that this would be a tempting opportunity for some nut to take a shot. In fact, if there are a million folks there, my guess is that anyone who even flashes a sharp nail file could find themselves buried under a pile of people in about two seconds.

19. I'd suggest Barack makes a cameo appearance and leaves...
Remember Bobby Kennedy PLEASE. If they have a million people, they better ALL be secret service. I hate to admit this, but there is enough hate in this country to bring crazies out of the woodwork. They live in little cities, big cities, high in the mountains, out in boats, etc, etc...and they just need to hear that there will be "no screening" to get them to gravitate to this event.

I believe that Senator Obama is "a marked man" from now until he walks out the back door of the White House, and then beyond. The crazies in this country can't be trusted. Hate is a terrible motivator..but a strong one. Look at what is happening in the Middle East....on 9/11....hate works terrible wonders.

BE AWARE AMERICA. We need to protect this man and his family and friends AT ALL COSTS. Don't let some piece of shit take him away from us like they did Bobby Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, JFK, Che Chevara, John Lennon, etc, etc.

Be vigilant!!

and people will see him up on a huge screen. They aren't going to take any chances with our new president.

It's sad that that has to be that way. But to announce no screening could just be too tempting to someone.

Also I know this won't happen, but just imagine if Obama loses by fraud what would 1,000,000 angry people do? Anyways if there were no tickets to get in I'm sure there would be more than 1 mil.
