Charlie Crist issues executive order to extend early voting in FL
Source: Orlando Sentinel

He is extending early voting to 12 hours a day from now until Sunday.

TALLAHASSEE - Citing news accounts of long lines at polling sites, Gov. Charlie Crist on Tuesday ordered an extension of early voting hours effective today through the end of early voting Sunday.

"I want to ensure maximum number of citizens can participate in our electoral process," the governor said.

Starting today, polls will remain open 12 hours a day -- from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. in all 67 counties -- to accommodate a record turnout that has already exceeded 1.2 million voters.

7. Charlie's no fool
He knows if he wants to get re-elected, he'd better ingratiate himself with the Obama voters who are surely plotting to replace him with a Dem next election season.

22. To be fair; he's been for election reform from day one
he came out strongly against electronic voting machines his first month in office.

27. Crist wants your vote when he goes up for re-election
and from the responses I'm reading on this thread, he may have your vote and numerous others. Well-played on his part, I guess.

28. Don't be so fucking insulting
I've always voted Democrat, period. Thoughtful, fair and sensible adults CAN actually acknowledge when someone from the other side has done a good thing. Knee jerk responses and black and white thinking belongs in the GOP, not our party.

30. Who's being insulting?
Whose response is knee jerk? I would suggest you take a long hard look in the mirror, but you won't see yourself clearly so never mind. Please do not address me again, thank you.

11. Hmm. Is Crist looking at 2016 for himself?
This is a really interesting move by Crist--a very centrist, reasonable, democratic (small "d") gesture. He has always seemed to be a modern day rarity: both a Republican and a decent, tolerant, honorable human being.

Does he think that perhaps he could become a standard bearer for a renewed Republican Party of resurgent reality-based Eisenhower Republicans, once the racists, bigots, xenophobes, jingoists, and medieval science-deniers are sent scurrying back to their paleolithic caves after a well-earned thumping loss in this year's election?

Would Crist accept a cabinet position in an Obama Administration?

nearly everyone brought their sample ballots with them, which made the whole process move more quickly.

16. Good on him!
For whatever reason, he looked at the rights of people to vote over whatever else. I know the Rethug party is splintering now. It never would have happened with a strong central leadership from somewhere.

No wonder so many in his party dislike him. He's also against paperless voting machines.

26. I read last week that relations between the McCain campaign and Crist were "strained"
it could be that or, most likely, they have to due to turnout.
