ALBUQUERQUE - The chairwoman of an Otero County Republican women's group on Tuesday defended a letter to the editor in which she wrote, ''I believe Muslims are our enemies.''

Marcia Stirman, a 56-year-old interior decorator, also called Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama ''a Muslim socialist.''

He's registered as Independant, so has been getting all kinds of crap in the mail - eg a personalized, "autographed" photo of the decrepit duo. Today on the phone they reminded him Obama's middle name was "Hussein", and said that his father was actually a Muslim terrorist!

You can be damn sure that robo-calls like this will be going at the last minute of the campaign. We just had a Federal Election here in Canada. During supper-time the day before the vote, I got a robo-call from my riding's Conservative candidate, saying that the Liberals' Green Shift Plan will mean that "your power bill will go up by 41%". Even though I'm not a big Liberal fan, I knew that statement was bogus. Look for more of these kind of last-minute desperation tactics. And make no mistake, the Republicans are desperate. What's with this attitude that the world will end if the Democrats win?

I read in today's paper what a woman wrote explaining why she's a Democrat. Let me tell you why I'm not. I'm a Republican because:

I believe in a sovereign God who sometimes gives us what we deserve.

I believe Muslims are our enemies.

I believe in life. A baby is not just a fetus, but a living being no matter where it resides.

I believe there is a good reason for the death penalty.

I believe in fiscal responsibility, for the government and for us.

I believe the government is way too big and rife with greed and corruption.

I believe in the truth. People believe lies because it's much easier than finding the truth.

I believe in personal responsibility. That includes spanking your children.

I believe American women should raise their own children and American men should be men enough to pay for children they've produced.

I believe a man and woman make marriage. Period.

I believe in America first and foremost and we ought to take care of our own people, our own land, and illegal aliens should go home.

I believe in guns and knowing how to use them properly.

I believe war is a fact of life and we should always win.

I believe in lower taxes. I know how to spend money better than Congress any day
of the week.

I believe in voter ID.

I believe there is a moderate and a socialist in this election. I agree with a two-party system, but Obama isn't a messiah or a democrat.

He's a Muslim socialist.

26. I was at an Ohio Flea Market last Sunday when some woman came up & handed me a large typed message

Turned out it was about Obama. She just said "I have something for you" and I thought it was about another Flea Market or something like that which is par for the course. But it turned out to be a tirade about Obama being a Muslim. It was full of hatred and lies. She walked away before I realized what it was and we left shortly after that so I wasn't able to tell her how I felt.

This reminded me of when I was a 15 year old girl in a Bible Church in Ohio back in 1960. It was about the same time of year, end of Oct. and nearing the election when my Minister was handing out pamphlets on how JFK was a Catholic who couldn't be trusted because the Pope would take over the country. The next week I came in with my JFK button on and was ostracized from my Church because I dared to wear a Kennedy badge into the Church. I figured if they could hand out lies I could wear a button supporting JFK. It was the last time I ever belonged to a Church of any kind. I have become a big fan of Thomas Jefferson because of this and feel a kinship to his views on religion because of this experience.
