FOX News Poll: Obama Leads McCain, 49% to 40%
Source: Fox News

Less than two weeks before Election Day, Barack Obama leads John McCain 49 percent to 40 percent among likely voters, according to a FOX News poll released Wednesday.

Obama's advantage comes mainly from independents, and from the fact that more voters identify themselves as Democrats these days and almost all of them back their party's nominee.

Eighty-eight percent of Democrats support Obama, and 83 percent of Republicans back McCain. Independents break 44 percent to 35 percent in Obama's favor.

In addition to independents, white Catholics are another important swing voting group and they support Obama 50 percent to 39 percent. White Catholics have voted for the winner in each of the last four presidential elections.

No "McCain gaining ground" headline? Fox must be joining the "Lberal Media Elite"...

5. Can you believe this?
This link, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27324419/, is to an AP story that claims there is a poll showing this as a 1 percentage point race. The claim is that after the 3rd debate all of McCains people came back to him because of what a great job he did and despite what all the other polls are this is basically a tossup. Gee, of course that ignores that it is not McCains people (read right wing conservatives) that are going to win him this race it would be a sizable number of independents and maybe even some conservative Democrats he would need to win). It ignores that fact that pretty much every poll said that people felt Obama did better in that debate than McCain ususally by a wide margin. Of course it also ignores that most current polls show it to be anywhere from a 5% to a 14% race in Obamas favor. Could it be that there is some bias to the AP wire?

8. 83 percent of Republicans back McCain??
I find that number shockingly high. I would have guessed it would be in the low seventies based on what I hear and see amongst Republicans I know who are HORRIFIED by Palin.
