Judge OKs early voting
Source: Chicago Sun Times / Post Tribune

Post-Tribune staff report

Early voting will continue at sites in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago, Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider ordered Wednesday.

The harm to union members and others who have argued in favor of the remote sites "outweighs the harm to the (Republican) plaintiffs," Schneider wrote in her ruling.

Schneider further ruled all early votes which have been cast so far are valid, except in instances where there is proof of vote fraud.

5. Cautiously optimistic...
But the Rethugs still have some options here, as I remember the judge saying it will probably be appealed. And we haven't seen the last dead black bear with Obama stickers on it, either. Waiting for the burning cross... nothing is too slimy for McSame/Failin.

6. Her reasoning is valid. Closing the three polls leaves voters without
a way to vote. The next nearest polling place is in Crown Point which is impossible to get to for people without financial means.

Which is why GOPers want the three early polling closed. The last presidential vote had Northern Indiana voters standing in lines for a minimum of four hours because voting polls had an inadequate number of voting machines. Many voters were too discouraged to vote. GOPers want that experience repeated this time.

9. This IS great news. And, hey, we're neighbors - I live in the town
just to the north of you and I'm one of those people at the anti-war vigil in the Square on Tuesday afternoons.

12. GOPers sued to be able to close down Dem early voting sites in minority areas
Their stated reasoning is that GOPers were worried about the minorities committing voter fraud because of Acorn. Their real reason is that there is no way for people with little means to be able to vote if the three voting sites were closed down and people had to trek (at least twenty miles or so I would guestimate) over to the County Courthouse.
