Chagos exiles ruling overturned

Exiled residents of the Chagos Islands have had
the right to return to their Indian Ocean homeland
overturned by the House of Lords.

The government won its appeal against a court
decision that had ruled in favour of 2,000 former
residents of the British overseas territory.

The Law Lords decision is the final judgement in
the long-running case.

The former residents were evicted from the islands
between 1967 and 1971 as part of a secret deal
with the US.

and I sincerley hope that the European Court of Human Rights finds in favour of the Chagos Islanders. If not I hope the fucking island sinks into the ocean.

John Pilger' documentary on the subject ,Stealing a Nation , can be watched in its entirety here : http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3667764379758632511

3. This has been going on for ages and they will never get home
The EU court of human rights will be ignored by the British govt if they rule in the exiles favor. The last time this came up it was blocked by Tony Blair using the extremely rare power of where the queen can overrule the legislature and courts. Isn't it funny how the rights of people go out the window when it comes down the US loosing probably their most strategic base in south east Asia (Deigo Garcia).

5. I don't know why the government is so fucking determined to stop them returning
the 2000 ruling didn't include a return to Diego Garcia, the island with the air base and torture prison. The UK and US governments would have got to keep their precious war base and memory hole for captives.

:banghead:
