Protestor tries to arrest Rove in SF

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 | 12:40 PM
By Terry McSweeney
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There was major political theater involving President Bush's former chief of staff Karl Rove. A protestor tried to arrest Rove for treason Tuesday morning while he was speaking at the Mortgage Bankers Association Convention, continuing in San Francisco.

There were three protests during a very lively back and forth between former senate majority leader George Mitchell and Karl Rove. Rove blamed the Democrats for everything wrong with the economy.

A protestor tried to smack handcuffs on Karl Rove, but Rove slapped back, and the woman was taken off stage.

17. He was humiliated twice on that stage.....
First by the woman and again By Mitchell.
Let him stay on the political stage, since he is not going to jail.

Let him be afraid to dine out with his family for fear that someone will walk up to him and attempt to put handcuffs on him.

Let him live a life of looking over his shoulder and sink into self imposed isolation due to fear of consequences from the damage he has caused.

20. Protester attempts to handcuff former Bush adviser Karl Rove in San Francisco
Source: By Associated Press

An anti-war protester confronted former Bush administration aide Karl Rove while he spoke at a San Francisco mortgage bankers' meeting.

A statement by the group Code Pink identified the woman as 58-year-old Janine Boneparth, who tried to handcuff Rove in what she called a citizen's arrest for "treason."

Rove, who was speaking Tuesday at the Mortgage Bankers Association's annual convention, elbowed Boneparth away as she was escorted off the stage. ..

In total, five Code Pink members were removed from the hall during Rove's appearance. The organization says none of the five women were charged.

28. Code Pink won't be taken seriously...
...until they start toting those pink-stock shotguns they're selling to the Palin types.

Seriously. This woman didn't want to handcuff Rove. She wanted to appear to handcuff Rove. The proper move would have been to intimidate him with the shotgun, break his jaw with the butt of the shotgun, and THEN handcuff him.

But since Code Pink doesn't want to really take effective action, only get noticed, this happened.

34. Then Code Pink doesn't want to do anything.
The whole point of nonviolent protest is to get people's hearts and souls. Does anyone believe Code Pink is doing that? They'd get more response by TP'ing the trees outside Rove's house. Most of the public, even those favorable to their beliefs, believe Code Pink is made up of clowns and poseurs.

You don't stop criminals by shaking your pink-gloved finger at them. You stop them by stopping them.

45. I tried to tell you the truth, but you didn't listen.
I certainly didn't participate in street theater, and make myself a good object lesson for Limbaugh's listeners why anyone who doesn't support Bush is insane and should be killed.

A shotgun stock to Rove's jaw, and then handcuffing, would have been more effective and sent a better message than the little passion play that lady put on.

70. What Rush? I listened to ordinary citizens giggling...
...at the poseur pretending to be a brave revolutionary.

Code Pink is a joke. Symbolic protests are pointless.

And you should be very wary of completely discarding violence as an appropriate tool, especially if McCain steals the election. That cute little post about everyone going to Washington to "peacefully protest" that the Swanson dude talked about...will be the first field test of the Army's microwave "pain gun." There will be no protest. There will be dead would-be protesters. And that's the result of your nonviolence.

Congress has ~ he ignores subpoenas, a judge rules against his excuses, and still Congress hasn't sent out the Federal Marshals to bring him in. They haven't even threatened to do that.

I wonder if the public was polled on the question 'who do you take more seriously, Congress or Code Pink, what the results would be. Code Pink only needs 12% approval rating to beat Congress.

10s of thousands of people have had their lives fractured by them. I doubt if they go into public on a regular routine. A grieving parent or spouse could easily interrupt that routine.

60. Stop with the emotional reactions.
Here it is, "The bush people and their families must live in fear every day. A grieving parent or spouse could easily interrupt that routine. I hope I am right." What other way is there to possibly interpret what he meant? In fairness though I asked what the poster meant. How does a question put words in anyone's mouth?

Try rereading the whole exchange and maybe you'll figure it out. Here's a hint, though: the answer you're looking for involves an angry or grieving parent or spouse making a citizen's arrest- you know, like in the OP.

Not violence. Nobody mentioned violence.... except you.

44. OK, this needs to be a national effort.
Every time this MF goes out in public, somebody needs to attempt to handcuff him and make a citizen's arrest -- a perfectly legal process, by the way.

This vermin has some serious karma coming his way but he desperately needs a little temporal justice in the meantime.

I am really shock that no charges was pressed. I believe she had perfect intent on doing so, BUT handcuffs are a no no. It's one of those dumb laws where you can own but no use things (like brass knucks, etc). She's very lucky she wasn't charged with attepmted kidnapping since handcuffs were in play. Just one of those wrong thing for the right reason episodes.
