Bush Campaign Manager Warns GOP to Expect Drop in Bush Polls

Bush Campaign Manager Warns GOP to Expect Drop in Bush Polls
The Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) - President Bush's solid poll ratings will drop, his
re-election campaign manager says, warning Republican activists against
complacency in the 2004 race.

"These numbers will come down. We must prepare for an election every bit
as close as the 2000 election," Ken Mehlman said in remarks prepared for
delivery Saturday to Republican National Committee members.

Mehlman's speech closed out a four-day RNC meeting punctuated by worries
that Bush's political stature has been hurt by the ailing economy, the
death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq and questions about the
administration's use of shaky intelligence to justify the invasion of
Iraq.

1. Let's get them down to 20 percent and do a recall.
We want our money back as well as our country.

22. Frylock,,,,Randi Rhodes thinks like you do!
She was talking to Greg Palast yesterday and she said that CA is one of the places that they want to fix the vote. By having a Republican gov, they would control the count. That is also what is going on in TX with the redistricting...and of course, Jebbie has FL.

4. "Then we can run as the underdog!"
Lower those expectations boys, its what you do so well. The poor beleaguer president*! My oh my. Well good luck but I don't think that this time you can quite as convincingly run a self-proclaimed King as the "underdog" as well as you could a pin-headed Texas governor.

but that's just my take on it---

oh, that crafty Bush! You know, he's withholding all that WMD in a secret-stragety to short-out the 'RATS in the next election! Oooh, I can't wait! WE WIN! WE WIN! <continues with maniacal laughter>

10. That's what John Loftus said yesterday
What show was it? I never keep track.

Anyway, he implied that living in Tampa, near Centcom, etc., he has all kinds of ties. He said they're not even looking for Saddam because they know he's dead. He said the WMD have been found, that they were oved into Iran and Syria, just across the border, and they're not going to bring them out until the election really heats up, when it can do the most damage to Democratic candidate.

the BIGGEST and FASTED ever...even exceeding his own fathers failure...it's nice to hear that the reTHUGlicans expect MORE of a DROP in the future...

the puppet pResident has failed and lied on so many fronts, both domestic and foreign, that he may not even be living in the White House by next summer....

13. dragging out WMDs at the last minute
I also heard that Rove told a group of Young Republicans yesterday at a campus that the election would be very close and they could help make the difference.

---------------

...they're not going to bring them out until the election really heats up, when it can do the most damage to Democratic candidate.

I don't buy that as a successful strategy because it means that they take the heat for another 8-10 months. In that period of time, the entire populace will look at shrub as a liar. After a year of that, he would still be unelectable, despite whatever dummied up WMDs they would be inclined to drag out.

16. And if the true story came out that were hiding them
until a time that was politically expedient that would blow up in their faces big time.

20. I'm with you. They would have revealed WMDs if they had found them
WMDs are just too good of a prize to keep them hidden. Now would have been the time to release them to halt *Shrub's decline into sub-50% approval--a trough from which he may never recover (!).

15. that's what the little twit Mowbray said, too
He said that they already have the WMD lined up and are holding information back to reveal later. (He didn't say for political reasons.) The host (Brian Lamb?) reeled back in his chair and asked if it wouldn't be highly damaging for the WH to keep that info from the people.

Mowbray is a jabbering twit.

19. Time for more fundraising!
Bush doesn't need $200 million because he's a shoe-in. He needs it to get his misinformation out in quick, easily digestible soundbites and that costs money. He's in trouble and he knows it.

21. thought they didn't govern by polls?
can't find the link to an old article, but I remember one paragraph that said the AWOL admin runs MORE polls than Clinton did...

has anyone else noticed the spin change depending on the polls? If AWOL is doing well, the repugs jump right in and start quoting them. But if AWOL's numbers are circling the toilet bowl...wellll "the president doesn't govern by polls...."
