Bush Aides Say Religious Hiring Doesn’t Bar Aid

By CHARLIE SAVAGE
Published: October 17, 2008
WASHINGTON — In a newly disclosed legal memorandum, the Bush administration says it can bypass laws that forbid giving taxpayer money to religious groups that hire only staff members who share their faith.

The administration, which has sought to lower barriers between church and state through its religion-based initiative offices, made the claim in a 2007 Justice Department memorandum from the Office of Legal Counsel. It was quietly posted on the department’s Web site this week.

The statutes for some grant programs do not impose antidiscrimination conditions on their financing, and the administration had previously allowed such programs to give taxpayer money to groups that hire only people of a particular religion.

But the memorandum goes further, drawing a sweeping conclusion that even federal programs subject to antidiscrimination laws can give money to groups that discriminate.

Expect increasingly brazen criminality to turn up in the last days and you will not be wrong.

obama should set up an entire new federal department just for prosecuting these people. they've given us enough material to keep a thousand prosecutors gainfully employed throughout obama's two terms.

7. We'll need a good de-Bushification program to handle this shit
So many crappy rulings, so many bureaucracies gutted and restaffed with cronies and incompetents. It won't be enough just to review signing statements -- they're going to need a full-time team just to find all the damage and clean it out.

8. Agreed. The stain these psychopaths have left on America...

... is just amazing. They have made EVERY effort, taken EVERY opportunity, to trample the ideals on which this nation was founded.

And THAT is exactly why they're flinging the "un-American crap" now.

It's PROJECTION. They accuse their opponents of the crimes and misdeeds which they themselves are guilty of.

Because, make no mistake about it, THEY are the true enemies of America. Their own actions prove it, over and over again.

10. HIGHLY. ILLEGAL.
Hey, everyone out there who thinks there's no such thing as separation of church and state?

1) You're wrong. Read the fucking Constitution.

2) THIS is what happens when you push that lie - more and more religion favored by government at your direct expense.

WAKE UP.
