4 die in medical helicopter crash in Aurora
Source: ChicagoBreakingNews.com

A medical helicopter transporting a 1-year-old patient to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago struck a radio tower wire and crashed in Aurora late Wednesday night, killing the baby girl and the three crew members on board, authorities said today.

The crash occurred in a vacant field near the intersection of Liberty Street and North Eola Road, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash, officials said. The wreckage will be collected and reassembled in an area hangar.

The craft, a Bell 222 helicopter, was en route to Children's Memorial from Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich. It was based at Clow Airport in Bolingbrook.

3. Its seems to be getting more dangerous lately for these choppers..
what a tragedy for the families involved. The Air Angels inspire hope with each mission they fly. I saw a group of them at the Chicagoland police/ems show in Aurora this past summer.

5. Flying into a metro area is actually more difficult with
night vision goggles. Flying choppers is just dangerous to begin with.

4. "Late Wednesday night"
as stated in the clip.

I wonder if the pilot had night vision goggles. Word was there is a shortage across the country, partly due to the Iraq war. A similar incident in Wisconsin earlier this year.
