CBS Poll: Uncommitted Voters Say Obama Won Final Debate

As in the previous debates, CBS News and Knowledge Networks have conducted a nationally representative poll of uncommitted voters to get their immediate reaction to tonight's presidential debate.

In the first presidential debate, second presidential debate and vice presidential debate, more uncommitted voters said the Democratic candidate was the victor.

And it looks like tonight's results will make it a clean sweep. These numbers are preliminary, and will change slightly as more respondents are added, but here's where things stand with most of the results in:

Fifty-three percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed identified Democratic nominee Barack Obama as the winner of tonight's debate. Twenty-two percent said Republican rival John McCain won. Twenty-four percent saw the debate as a draw.

More uncommitted voters trusted Obama than McCain to make the right decisions about health care. Before the debate, 61 percent of uncommitted voters said that they trust Obama on that; after, 69 percent said that. For McCain, 27 percent trusted him to manage health care before the debate; 30 percent said so afterwards.

they were giving too much credit to McCain.

I've been ass-backwards during these, though. I thought McCain wasn't as bad as everyone else thought in the first two, but I thought he was HORRIBLE tonight (when he received the most praise). I thought Obama tonight was the best, but the commentators said he was 'cautious'.

In the last debate, Tapper bent over backwards to give all sorts of credit to John McCain that he didn't deserve. I was forced to conclude that either Tapper had him some McCain-brand manlove or maybe was drunk or something. I swore we watched two different debates.

I think Tapper is holding the Halperin chair of the "We Aren't Nice Enough To Conservatives" department at ABCNews.

which ought to appreciate the thoughtful and moderate Obama, and the lower instinctive and subconcious mind, which might see Obama as a threat or an unknown, and someone to be feared.

A person's experiences, even before birth, can have an effect on the development of these parts of the mind. It has been shown that children who are affected by hunger and violence are more often guided by the lower, more animal-like parts of the mind.

40. I was just chatting with someone in my office

that says she's still undecided. I think she leans republican normally. I asked her what issue hasn't been addressed that she's waiting for and she wasn't really sure about the answer to that. She knows I'm very partisan but I don't hit people over the head with it, I try and find out what their issue is and explain Sen Obama's position. One interesting part was that she felt Obama was going to raise her taxes. As I know she doesn't make $250 (even combined with her husband), I explained the tax plan and told her to go to the website and see for herself what the plan was. She promised to do so. It's not that she's unintelligent or disengaged. She's just busy with a job and a new baby (9 months old). Not everyone is as into politics as we are and although I understand people's surprise that not everybody has made their decision yet, some people are just too damn busy.

We just had an election in Canada. I had an opportunity to be around a Conservative poll worker and we ended up talking about all sorts of stuff just to pass the time. We agreed on practically everything including issues such as affordable housing and homelessness.

At the end of the evening I finally asked him, "why on earth do you call yourself a Conservative? Your ideas place you to the left of the Liberal Party". His response - "I'm an Old Conservative from back in the days when we supported civil rights". In other words, he's voting Conservative even though he totally opposes the Conservative platform.

I was especially disgusted by the guy who said he liked that McCain emphasized being "tough" on spending or some crap, but then pointed out that Barack noted that earmarks = 0.05% of the budget, and then said he still liked what McLameBrain said.

No wonder they gave McBrainDead a big thumbs up for using complete sentences, since many of them clearly struggle with it themselves.

At one point, I heard him actually say that Americans would pay for it independently of the tax system, presumably through donations.

OK, tell me this. Exactly which Americans are going to do this? The ones the spending freeze won't help at all certainly won't; the ones without jobs won't; the ones in debt won't.

So who's left? The rich, the corporate, the cronies... just imaging the consequent corruption, backhanding, elite networking, bribery, and fraud just boggles the mind.

has effectively buried McCain. IMO at this point, game over. Senator Obama has impressed me with each debate and has made me feel good about my decision to support him with each one. He's done better in some than others and there's never been a doubt in my mind he won each debate.

I still wonder why the Republicans picked McCain as their champ. Some Republicans I know laughed at me when I declared Obama was going to handle McCain with ease in any debate they happen to have. Obviously, I am not surprised at the outcome, unlike some others. :)
