YouTube to McCain: It’s not all about you

Video sharing site YouTube Inc. told John McCain’s presidential campaign this week that although election rally videos are important to viewers, they aren’t so important they’re exempt from digital rights concerns.

McCain’s campaign had complained to YouTube that many videos of its electioneering events were pulled from the site because, for example, they contained copyrighted music.

In a letter to Trevor Potter, general counsel of the McCain-Palin 2008 campaign, Zahavah Levine of San Bruno-based YouTube wrote “while we agree with you that the U.S. Presidential election-related content is invaluable and worthy of the highest level of protection, there is a lot of other content on our global site that our users around the world find to be equally important.” A copy of the letter (and of the campaign’s original complaint) was posted online by San Francisco-based CNet (NASDAQ: CNET).

Levine, YouTube’s chief counsel, added, “We try to be careful not to favor one category of content on our site over others.”

5. More than likely. Many artists have contacted the McCain Campaign with cease and desist letters.

John Cougar Mellencamp and Heart to name a few. I can't why they would not also contact Youtube to have the offending campaign rally video removed.

4. oh, so now the mclame campaign is concerned with copyrighted music

back when they were thumbing their noses at the various artists about using music, they didn't have a problem with it...

so is it really about copyright infringement or is it about the mclame campaign being documented over and over for using music that the artists have asked THEM not to use?
