O'Neill didn't misuse documents, Snow says
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/02/08/oneill.documents/index.html

Treasury Secretary John Snow said Sunday that his predecessor, Paul O'Neill, did nothing wrong when he used departmental documents as source material for a book that cast President Bush in an unflattering light.

An investigation showed that some of those documents were classified and should not have been released to O'Neill, Treasury Department sources have told CNN.

"I should make it clear that nothing that former Secretary O'Neill did in any way calls into question the propriety of his actions," Snow said in an interview with CNN at the conclusion of a meeting of G-7 finance ministers.

The investigation by the department's inspector general found that though O'Neill did receive classified material from the department after his resignation, the lapse was the fault of the Treasury Department, not O'Neill, the sources said.

1. The first story they trot out says
that O'Neil used classified docs. Eventhough he did nothing improper they didn't mention this fact. They just implied that he did and wanted people to believe it.

Later, when nobody is paying attention anymore, they "clearify" the O'Neil did nothing wrong.

6. Interesting

That would lead me to believe that cabinet members are starting to distance themselves from the Rovian crowd. They may suspect that the President will go down hard, they want a career afterwards.

3. This is an excellent book, btw
I finished it last night. The chapter on O'Neill in Africa with Bono is especially good.

5. Yes.
It was the happy ending I was hoping for.
The rest was epilogue, as the conflict had already been set, and his life really got back on track.

Against the power of ignorance, the Gods themselves
sometimes are helpless.

7. "WTF" - These administration people are off their feed....
and they don't care who knows it. Wasn't it three days ago or so, that Snow wanted Paul O'Neill shot for treason.
