Scranton Paper: Another Cry of 'Kill him' at Palin Rally
Source: E&P

NEW YORK In a lenghty account of a Sarah Palin rally in Scranton, Pa. today, the local paper, the Times-Tribune, relates that at 1:25 p.m. just before she arrived, a candidate for Congress stepped on stage: "Chris Hackett addressed the increasingly feisty crowd as they await the arrival of Gov. Palin.

"Each time the Republican candidate for the seat in the 10th Congressional District mentioned Barack Obama the crowd booed loudly.

"One man screamed "kill him!'"

The report continued: "Supporters have been noted shouting 'kill him,' 'terrorist,' 'off with his head' and other equally incendiary terms about Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. Others have directly suggested Mr. Obama is a Muslim, which he is not, or a traitor. Some comments even drew rebuke from Republican presidential nominee John McCain."

1. So, are these people being detained and questioned by the Secret Service?
"Terrorist" is just plain silly, but "kill him" and "off with his head" warrant an investigation...

23. Hear, hear!
Given that the police, FBI, etc. are so quick to arrest people just for wearing anti-Bush t-shirts, they should damn well act on death threats against Obama.

28. What I'm afraid of
is that these will be the people GUARDING us when they take us away to the FEMA camps.

As long as they're shouting "God Bless America" while they yell "Kill him" it's exactly the mindset they are looking for.

THEY SOULD DETAIN THESE PEOPLE FOR QUESTIONING AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY SHOULD PROSECUTE FOR DEATH THREATS. I THINK THERE ARE LEGAL GROUNDS HERE.

18. damn right!
They are threatening the life of a U.S. Senator!

They need to do their job and arrest these people. They must be tried, convicted and locked up! They are not only a threat to Sen. Obama but also the rest of the citizens of the United States!

This is indeed a frightening situation! They must ACT NOW!

Does the national party have that sort of ability, or do you mean file complaints leading to prosecution?

3. McCain did not rebuke anyone
He told them quite plainly that he wanted them to continue their "ferocity"...just "be respectful" in their "ferocity"...

the very meaning of the word ferocity precludes being respectful...

So far, I haven't heard any Republicans tell the "kill him" hecklers to stop saying that.

11. Because The Republicans are Hoping That Some Wingnut Really Will Do It
At which point they will all be "shocked" that such a thing could happen (again) in America.

They probably figure that the ensuing unrest would frighten people into voting for McLame
instead of whoever we had left.

The local tv station said many were from NY and NJ who wanted to see a piece of "history" since Scranton is the hub? Well, they should've been handcuffed, led out of there, & right to the county jail..Can you imagine what would've happened if you did it at their rally? To get a ticket to this KKKfest, you were supposed to go to one of their headquarters and sign your name--make sure that you're R or registered w/ the D's for McCain!!

This story was Olbermann's lead story tonite, nice, real nice!! McCain has his "soulmate" to thank for his 14 point drop.

You can read the comments written about what happened here & there's plenty, feel free to post--

10. As sad as this behavior is
I am confused why it has taken so long for anyone in our society to finally notice the alarming escalation in hate talk that emanates from right wing pundits and comments from 'conservative' posters on any and every news site or blog that allows comments. Charges should be brought against any personality who incites violence against others. Inaction rewards deplorable behavior and allows such speakers to set a troubling example for viewers and listeners. There have already been two incidences in the past year where some right wing nut case has gone on a shooting spree specifically aiming their violence at fellow citizens encouraged by divisive hate talk. I worry that as the economy gets worse there will be more violence.

36. Excuse me, but the term "trailer trash" is offensive to me.
I live in a mobile home and neither I nor any of my neighbors could be considered "trash." Why do people look down their noses at those who live in mobile homes. At least our homes are paid for and not mortgaged to the hilt.

22. The more this gets out, the more we should hammer on it..
This was started by McCain and Palin. This is their base! Low class, low information, mobster trash. Intelligent Republicans do not want their trailers hitched to these people. I for one am glad that this is getting news coverage! Finally! Lets ensure that it is UNCOOL to be a FOOL!

I would rather be obscure then be the leader of such criminal ignorance. McCain? Where is your honor? Did you ever really consider honor as something that you would give up so easily?

Should you lose this election McCain, and I believe you will - THIS is what you will be remembered for.

If anything happens to Obama, the Republicans will Never Ever, Ever be able to show their faces within this country without this blood being brightly displayed on their hands.

The connection has been made, and made publicly in the media.

For the sake of this country, Secret Service - you damn well better do your jobs!

27. And WHY is the Secret Service
having so much difficulty in apprehending these people? We have seen them exercising great haste and rough vigor in silencing and removing Code Pinkers. Apparently SS attention is so focused on Code Pink that they cannot be inconvenienced by something as trivial as death threats against the Democratic candidate.

same stuff Sarah Palin says. He only took a couple days on the trail, for
the cameras, to act like he doesn't condone it.
The stuff I read today said.. McCains advisors and strategist for his base said
that McCain would attack Obama on Ayers and Wright during Wednesday's debate. This is supposed
to be an attack on Obama's character, not the issues...

He plans to be very aggressive. I hope Obama comes back with
some of the Sarah Palin radical AIP stuff the media won't mention. Her abuse of Power stuff as Governor and as Mayor.

Like Obama said "We don't start it, but we will end it"

Obama should expect plants to attend his rallies and do exactly that. It would be childish and bogus, and therefore exactly the kind of tactic we've come to expect from Steve Schmidt.

37. I was in Scranton last weekend (Saturday)
we were visiting an elderly aunt (she's 92 and voting for McCain because he was a POW and her brother was a POW.... etc.) --her niece (My MIL) was visiting us and hadn't seen her since 2001 so we brought her down. I only know about her McCain support because she received a phone call about it.

Anyhow, after the excruciating visit, we drove past about 6 people demonstrating "Democrats for McCain".

I felt like I was in topsy turvy town.

Also, I find out that my MIL who is a staunch Republican, is totally fine with the whole mob mentality. She considers those participants "energized".

Am I a bad person to wish that the Florida city inhabitants who are disenfranchised on election day find themselves "energized" to trample into her gated community and drive big ruts on the golf course she lives on? Or for the army of people she and her neighbors hire to power wash the house, do pool maintenance, cut the grass, service the sprinkler system, debug the house 3 times a year, clean the carpets, control the red ants, wash the windows --everything but wipe her husband's ass--go on strike?
