Teamsters will back McCaskill for governor

The Missouri Teamsters endorsed state Auditor Claire McCaskill Sunday in her race for governor and rebuked Gov. Bob Holden for his campaign's reaction to their news.

Jim Kabell, president of the Teamsters, said he heard a news report Sunday in which his organization's endorsement was described by a spokesman for Holden's campaign as insignificant.

"When the governor won in 2000, he won by a margin of 13,000 votes," he said. Pointing to a union membership of more than 65,000 active and retired members, he said, "We believe (the endorsement) is a significant factor in this race."
