FOX NEWS POLL: OBAMA 46, McCAIN 39
Source: Fox

10/10/08 FOX News Poll: Obama Maintains Lead Over McCain

Barack Obama leads John McCain by 46 percent to 39 percent, according to a FOX News national registered voter poll released Friday. Two weeks ago Obama led by 45 percent to 39 percent (September 22-23).

Obama’s advantage comes mainly from doing better among women, blacks, young voters, those with a college degree, and unmarried voters. He has increased his edge over McCain among women to 16 percentage points, up from a 4-point edge last month (September 8-9).

Obama has also improved his standing with his party faithful. A month ago, 79 percent of Democrats were backing Obama. Today it is 86 percent. McCain has consistently received the backing of over 80 percent of Republicans and is backed by 83 percent today.

Independents split their vote 34 percent Obama and 32 percent McCain, with 24 percent unsure. That’s little changed from two weeks ago when Obama was up by 36 percent to 31 percent and 29 percent undecided.

25. This is the most common refrain I hear from white men of all ages:
"I'm not a racist, but I just can't bring myself to vote for a black man"

Of course I live in north Texas, redneck central of the USA.

where are they THAT honest? I get the ARAB / MUSLIM / RADICAL line which of course I know translates into I just can't bring myself to vote for a black man but they are defintely too cowardly to come right out and say it

38. My appearance and demeanor
lead other white males to open up whenever the subjects of politics and race are broached. I hear racist epithets frequently. I have no doubt that Obama has a thin majority of support in this region (Texoma), but conservative white male McCain supporters are by far the most vocal about their 'politics'.

Recently, a good friend of mine who happens to be a lesbian, who, oddly enough, was a McCain supporter until she heard Palin's views on homosexuality (she refuses to vote now), started in with the 'Arab/Muslim/radical' line. I eliminated each of her excuses for not supporting Obama, but in the end, she refused to budge. I believe it is the issue of race that prevents her from supporting Obama. Perhaps she herself is unaware of it. Her agitation told me it was time to drop it, as I do not wish to make enemies, but instead provoke people to think about larger issues. She's a crusty, cantankerous, but kind and generous soul, and I can't help but like her. Most often it seems, racism is a subconscious phenomenon.

hey, I will be at the Whitesboro Peanut Festival Saturday morning if I'm not tapped to work OT. :D

on edit - argh, I was thinking Lake Texoma; my Texan coworker said no, you're out in the Panhandle somewhere? :o

40. Lake Texoma is correct.
How I wish I could go to the peanut festival. I hear there's lots of good food there. Eating is one of my favorite hobbies (I ride the equivalent of 30 miles a day on an exercise bike to keep the pounds off). Unfortunately I've been working seven days a week for a few years now with no end in sight. Maybe next year.

41. my schedule is hideous too-
5PM to 5AM so it is very difficult for me to switch to days for a festival but you are correct - it's the food that pulls me in. I find it very strange that it is easier for me to exercise an hour EVERY DAY than for me to try to curb my bad eating habits :D

42. I live in North Texas, too
A comment I actually heard last week : "I'm too white to vote black". A comment made without shame in a crowd of about 30 people.

Try wearing an Obama/Biden shirt in public and listen to the conversations you start. I have three of them and wear one almost every minute I am off work. I wont wear one to work, because I am afraid it would cause trouble for me, but no one can do anything to me when I am not working.

44. Absolutely.
I deal with hundreds of people every day. Obama paraphernalia at work is out of the question. An acquaintance, who shocked the hell out of me when he revealed he was voting for Obama, thereby increasing my respect for him exponentially, said he absolutely cannot keep a poster in his yard. It's gone, practically, as soon as the sun sets.

32. My Doc is bat-shit crazy repug....
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 05:47 PM by axollot
....that I only just started seeing. If she wasn't so terribly good at treating my condition (many docs do not prescribe properly for chronic pain conditions) I would have left her in the dust.

Point is, my appt the month I went to see her, just before McLame thought Palin was a good choice for his Veep choice. Well at that appointment she said to me repeatedly how she "really" believes that Obama would lose the election and not just lose but McShame would win in a total and complete landslide.

So I suggested a friendly bet - that if Obama *won* the election, I would not have to pay for my appointment that month which is $92.00 (I have to go *every* month). She wouldn't take me up on the bet. She's in her early 70's herself.

BUT my Mum's voting Obama and she too, is in her early 70's. So, Obama really does have *everyones* vote! (except those you couldn't change anyway) - not that work still doesn't need to be done, it does, and I do what I can still too!

Cheers
Sandy

19. Sadly...
I actually know of a couple of people who were going to vote McCain because of Palin's gender.
Fortunately at least one has switched their vote.
While I don't think it will be a determining factor, there are such stupid women out there. Leading in a group is not the same as getting the entire group.

12. Ouch
anything in 30s spells disaster for a candidate. There are basically two numbers that will tell you this is over and that is if McCainn starts hitting the 30s or if Obama gets to 54, either of those are bad, bad, bad signs for the pukes.

17. Conservatives motivate through fear and hate
They can't generate excitement for McSame because they think he is too liberal, so they need to get the vote out based on hate of the other candidate. They really wanted to be able to whip up the morans by hating Hillary. I may have to reprogram one of my TVs to allow Faux Snoose, just to take a peek at how they are spinning the economy these days. Probably the fault of the Dem majority in Congress.

43. FIXED Noise is Still Catapulting the Bushiganda, I see.
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 11:18 AM by tom_paine
Consider: They are keeping Obama under 50%, which allows the stolen election (the usual, now common "phenomena" of "100% of undecided voters miraculously voted Bushie!!!!!!")

And consider the line, deliberately untrue and calculated to keep their Stupid White Man (I am a Stupid White Man, too, so leave me alone with that political correctness, please) Base in line.

Obama’s advantage comes mainly from doing better among women, blacks, young voters, those with a college degree, and unmarried voters.

While they have plenty of the customary Plausible Deniability built into this Bushiganda Article, it still drives forth the Bushigand Backstory for the (hopefully not) upcoming stolen election.

I am NOT advocating people shouldn't vote. Get out on Nov. 4th and VOTE for Obama. Let's flood the system with honest votes.
