Democratic group pouring money into Esch campaign
BY ROBYNN TYSVER

The heat was turned up today in the 2nd Congressional District race between Republican Rep. Lee Terry and Democrat Jim Esch. A national Democratic committee began pouring money into the race in an effort to defeat Terry.

The $435,000 invested in advertising by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee means they believe Esch has a chance of scoring an upset over Terry, a five-term incumbent in a red state.

The question now is whether the GOP will invest in the race and put it squarely in the national spotlight.

Terry said he’s not planning on getting much help from the DCCC’s Republican counterpart in Washington. He said he would fight any negative attacks directed at him by the national Democrats.

Obama opening third campaign office in Omaha

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is opening third campaign office in Omaha.

It's the latest move by the Obama campaign to extend its reach in Omaha.

Campaign officials today said the new office will be located at 144th Street and West Center Road.

Obama already has offices in central Omaha and north Omaha.

"We want to make sure we're taking the (Obama) message throughout the whole 2nd Congressional District," said Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey.

1. awesome .... looks like we're trying to earn a split of NE's electoral votes.
I say why not? Every electoral vote you can get is a plus.

2. I forgot to mention

When Esch ran 2 years ago, he did it WITHOUT any PAC etc. $! And he had by far the closest percent to Terry since Terry's first run.

3. Five term incumbent, hmmm?
that would put him in Congress in time to vote on Gramm's financial deregulation bill. Usually incumbents brag about all the pork they brought to their home district, but that would mean he would have to brag about his earmarks and McW has poisoned that well. Should be like shooting fish in a barrel.
