Obama urges Americans not to panic over economy
Source: Yahoo News

INDIANAPOLIS - Democratic nominee Barack Obama on Wednesday urged Americans not to panic over the faltering economy, saying "there are better days ahead" — especially if he is elected president.

Speaking to several thousand people in Indianapolis, Obama acknowledged public anxiety over the financial crisis in starker terms than usual.

"We meet at a moment of great uncertainty for America," he said. "But this isn't a time for fear or panic. This is a time for resolve and leadership. I know that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis."

Obama ridiculed his Republican opponent, John McCain, for recently saying "the fundamentals of our economy are strong." But in his 35-minute speech on a muddy harness-racing track, he made a similar argument.

1. Which "we" did he mean exactly?
"We" didn't steer ourselves into this shit in the first place.

5. Unfortunately, when you're caught in the wake of another ship...
you can't expect the other guy to steer you out of it. We've been screwed, and now we have to toughen up and deal with it. But we've got to insist that Congress does its job this time, and doesn't allow this sort of thing to happen again...even if it means impeaching certain well-to-do thugs in order to reign in their buddies.

2. imho, there's no way to avoid pain (joblessness, inflation, etc)
The cures we're being forced to accept are worsening the situation.

Sometimes firemen let a fire burn itself out.

3. An essential difference in Obama's and McCain's statements
in my opinion is that Obama is not using his statements about American workers to deny an economic problem in order to gain politically. McCain did it to try to drive that "Obama doesn't support the troops because he voted against Bush's war policies" wedge. McCain saying he's the American workers' candidate and that Obama's against the troops/workers, forsooth.

Obama is showing calm leadership in a time when people are so worked up by irrational fears (strategically manufactured fears) about the economy (a reminder from Obama about fearing fear itself, to me), not denying problems and distorting words for political gain. But that won't stop McCain/Palin from distorting this as well, I'm sure.

4. The Reich has succeded
In braking the back of America. Grover Norquest has his bath tub and is sailing little rubber ducks in it now.

We are done.

We will have no $$ for Medicare, Social Security, supporting alternate energies, ect etc - you know - for anything on the HUMAN agenda.

Unless.......

Something extreme and radical is done to tax away and/or legally take back all of the money that that has been stolen no matter where or who.

But that's not going to happen- is it.

6. Obama is right. As FDR said: "The only thing we have to fear is Fear Itself."
Fear only makes economic crises worse.
