Another McCain-Palin Introducer Declares "Barack Hussein Obama"
Source: Huffington Post

For the second time in three days, the speaker at a McCain campaign rally used Barack Obama's middle name "Hussein" in a demeaning fashion to ignite the crowd.

Speaking in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Bill Platt, the GOP chair of Lehigh County, twice referred to "Barack Hussein Obama" minutes before John McCain and Sarah Palin were set to take the stage.

On Monday, a local Florida sheriff preceded Palin's speech by declaring: "On Nov. 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened."

McCain has distanced itself from the deliberate and malicious use of Obama's middle name in the past. When a conservative radio talk show host first discussed Barack "Hussein" Obama in February, the campaign said it was inappropriate and not reflective of the race they are seeking to run.

71. I like Barack's Middle Name
We should not get upset when someone uses Barack’s middle name. The enlightened people know he did not choose the name and kept the name out of respect for his mother. We should all say his middle name 100 times and move on. People who are going to vote Democrat will not change their vote because of Republican nonsense.

2. It's all they've got.
And it's already been used and abused to the point of no longer having any real impact on the average voter. All this does at this stage in the campaign is help rally their hate voters. Who they already own.

Who are diminishing in numbers.

Most folks aren't like that- though like people anywhere, they can get riled up in a crowd by a few.

More often, they're like the Durham family:

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, in 1979 gets a hug during his high school graduation in Hawaii from his maternal grandparents, Stanley Armour Dunham and Madelyn Payne, both natives of Kansas.

4. People (ie, "We") Are Going To Have To Freaking Deal With It
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 01:14 PM by Crisco
We saw this last winter and this spring from Freeper trolls and faux HC supporters on DU, so it's not like we didn't know it was coming.

Also, when Obama brought out "lipstick on a pig," he opened the door to this. I would have to imagine there is a plan to deal with this crap.

75. Whats so sickening about the "Lipstick On a Pig "comment ..
at the rally was the repugs totally took it out of context.
Obama really truly wasn't even talking about Palin.
He said it as an example of one of Mccains policies.
Mccain trying to make his policy be something it wasn't to the
public and Barack said something to the effect of comparing it to a silk purse and sows
ear and the lipstick on the pig was just another example of the comparison.

I was there at the rally and the repugs totally took it
out of context. They jumped on nothing, like a fly on poop.

Their just a bunch of vultures looking for kill.

76. He Knew What He Was Doing
Just as he knew what he was doing last spring when he said Clinton "periodically" goes on the attack when she's feeling down. Just as Clinton knew what she was doing when she said Obama hadn't done the "spadework" to be worthy of the nom, last winter. It's a game. They know it.

61. Yeah. It does. In arabic.
His wonderful, free-spirited beloved mother gave him an entirely non-English name. Non-Irish, too. Was she planning to have him live in Arabia? Kenya? Cloud cuckoo land? Nothing from HER family in his name? How about Barack Kearney Obama?

She should have thought for two seconds about all the places her son might have to or want to go. But she didn't. And now that middle name is a millstone around his neck. We won't touch it and we get offended if they do. So don't tell me how nice a name it is. If it's such a nice name, why don't we use it? It was as thoughtless as that idiot actor who named his son Peanut Rademacher.

Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 01:23 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
What degree of prescience does a parent need to predict the future 20 years ahead of time?

Saddam rose to power in 1979.

The name means "good; small and handsome one".

25. Hussein is a name with significant religious and cultural history, based on his fathers
culture and history, it's a very common name. It's no different than having a child named Timothy based on the "Timothy" in the Bible. It doesn't denote a connection to Timothy McVeigh any more than Obama's middle name denotes a connection to Saddam.

Holy shit, I had no idea. There is no way I'm voting for him now. For you see I have been living on Mars for the past decade. Under a rock in a cave. With my eyes shutand my fingers in my ears.

If this is what the GOP wants to talk about while the economy implodes and more and more peopel can't afford to see a doctor have at it. All it does is cement what a bigoted, redneck, violent agenda the GOP has in the minds of all the undecideds and moderates out there.

I realize why they are doing it, but the more the name Hussein is heard, the more normal it becomes and the less strange it sounds. We should start naming our children and our pets Hussein, for gods sake, and Barack Hussein Obama should use his full name proudly during every moment of his two term presidency. His name is nothing to be ashamed of.

Okay, so they got the Hussein part right, long before Saddam was on the scene. And they almost got the OSAMA part right, but the clouds started to close in on the premonition before they could notice the difference and file for a change in their last names. Barack was chosen like most other popular names, from a character on a soap opera.

How freakin' desperate can McCain get? Are they really dumb enough to think this will help when the only people these attacks appeal to are ones that wouldn't vote for Obama if his name was Ronald Reagan. Obama had it right a month or so ago when he said, "they must think you're stupid."

53. Hussein is a pretty common name...
The first Hussein who comes to my mind is King Hussein of Jordan, who worked with Yitzhak Rabin to negotiate a peace treat between their two countries.

Then there's Sayyed Hussein el-Husseini, a Lebanese politician who helped end the Lebanese civil war in 1990, and propelled the disarmament of sectarian militias.

Another Hussein, not quite as well known as these two, is Taha Hussein (1889-1973), an Egyptian author. The loss of his eyesight at an early age did not affect his visionary mind. One of his books, On Pre-Islamic Poetry, which suggested that the Quran might not be the most objective historical reference, was banned until re-edited. He believed in free education, sought an end to poverty and ignorance in his country, and was supportive of the emancipation of women during his lifetime.

If only we could see an end to bigotry and ignorance in this country.

73. Royal name in Jordan; "beautiful one". No need for Obama to be ashamed
of his name.

No need for anyone to be ashamed of their name; it's their behaviour that should determine that.

Obama has no need for shame there, either.

Paliban & mccain sure can't same the same.

74. Husayn--one of the most common and revered names in the world
They're stupid and shallow for thinking it's a point to score. Not to say that it isn't going to get a few winks & nods in some quarters, but it remains stupid.
