Obama stops by Al Gore's after debate
Source: Tribune's Washington Bureau

NASHVILLE -- After his debate appearance Tuesday evening, Sen. Barack Obama made a quick fundraising stop at a home of one of the nation's most popular Democrats, Al Gore. ...

... Obama spoke less than five minutes, and did not mention the debate.

"The main thing I wanted to do is acknowledge the extraordinary legacy and the ongoing work of Al and Tipper Gore," Obama said. "They have been an inspiration to Michelle and myself.''

Obama apologized upon arriving that they would not be staying long, partly because of Michelle, who he called "the hardest-working person in show business," had a busy schedule with media appearances and other events. ...

1. Good for him.
I was hoping he'd stop by Gore's house.

2. Michelle looked very tired at the debate.
I wish her well. She is a wonderful woman.

23. They're all tired (except Palin)
Everyone involved in this campaign, on either side, has been going at it 24 x 7 for about 2 years now...

That can wear on someone.

It will kill McCain

Obama already looks older, as does Biden

Everyone, even McCain, needs 1 week to hole up in a hotel somewhere with nothing to do, room service and no cable.

Except Palin

She just needs to go away

3. Look out, here comes Sarah! Gore is a terrorist.
Al recently advocated civil disobedience. Try picturing Palin mingling in that crowd.

5. Somehow I feel Gore would be just as happy to see Obama get elected
as he would have been happy to see himself becoming president. There is zero envy there.

8. I think what makes it easier on Gore these days is that he chose not to be President
this time around. In 2000, it was chosen for him, but this time around, he decided against it. He knew, or should have known he would have walked away handily with the presidency this time around had he stepped up. What took Obama most of a year and a half to earn, Gore already had. While it broke my heart that he chose not to take the mantle, I'm glad he had the choice this time around.

13. Tavalon. Thank you for sharing that and expressing it so well.
Magnananimity. That is what Al Gore is about - his hard work for all of us on this planet and for keeping involved and making appearances for candidates. I'm glad he's there for me to praise.

11. Al Gore recognizes as very few can how extremely exhausted Obama must be right now
and will wait to "school" Obama until after Obama has been elected.

You are absolutely right that "clean coal" is complete and total dangerous bullshit.

Last night was not the time for Gore to school Obama --

12. I'm tired of Obama's pandering to the corporate powers that be. The coal industry donated lots
of money to Obama's campaign don't forget.

The fact of the matter is that Gore is so beloved he would have won this presidential election in a landslide.

And why is that? Because of his devotion to the cause of Global Warming.

When Gore endorsed Obama, many people like me started looking for Obama to take up where Gore left off.

So when Obama starts talking "clean coal" it tends to piss off people like me, and I'm sure there are lots of us out there.

The bottom line is that I just want Obama to do the right thing in regard to Global Warming.

Not something that pleases his biggest campaign donors and continues to harm the environment.

But instead do what is best for humanity and our Planet Earth.

Is that really so much to ask?

I think not.

25. Love your post
I took down my Al Gore finishline toon in my sig line when Al endorsed Obama. Now I cringe (well, get way pissed is more like it) when I hear Obama talk about clean coal. Add to that his pro off-shore drilling stance, and I feel like it's a slap in the face to Al.

26. I hope Vice President Gore gave Obama some tips on shutting down McCain's energy proposals
Obama needs to hammer the McCain Campaign about simply promoting more of the same hydrocarbon energy base.

I want to see Obama have a clear National strategy for clean, renewable energy.

and Obama needs to learn a lot from him, but part of me says that Obama needs to gently tell Gore... "That's the way to debate!"

21. I think that would be kind of mean,
I am sure Gore feels bad enough without being reminded of what the world thinks he did wrong, or he could point out that he won the election and the Supreme Court stole it away.

15. One of my hopes is that Al Gore has a prominent place in the Obama administration
It could set him up for one last shot at the White House in 2012. (Sorry Hillary fans, I love Mr. Gore more).

20. Make Al Gore the "Secretary of Mankind's Last Chance"
Give Al Gore the authority and Iraq war style funding to head the "Manhattan Project" of alternative energy. Support him in the war against global warming. Treat these two issues like a damn alien invasion- a fight for survival. Screw the scam "war on terror" - fight for the planet! Put what's left of the United States' wealth and power to good use and try and lead the world out of this mess.
