Secret Service Investigating Obama Threats At McCain/Palin Rallies
Source: Radar

The Secret Service is following up on media reports today that someone in the crowd at a McCain/Palin event suggested killing Barack Obama, according to Secret Service spokesman Malcolm Wiley. The shout of "kill him" followed a Sarah Palin rant on Obama's relationship with radical Chicagoan Bill Ayers.

Wiley says the Secret Service did not begin looking into the matter until press reports, namely Dana Milbank's article in the Washington Post, surfaced today, because no agents at the event heard anything. "The Secret Service did not hear any threatening statements directed at targets under its protection and no threatening statements were reported to us by law enforcement or citizens at the event," Wiley told Radar. Also unclear: whether the remark was directed at Obama or Ayers if the words were actually "kill" and "him."

Wiley said that the Secret Service had tried to get in touch with Milbank to get his account of the event but was unsuccessful. Were the they able to confirm the remark they'd "be looking to talk to that person," Wiley said. "We investigate everything because we take all threats seriously."

18. If she doesn't denounce it...
basically this would amount to tacit agreement with the threat. I've been searching for the denouncement and it has apparently not occurred, disgusting.

19. yes it would
by remaining silent, not denouncing it, she appears to be in agreement

it's possible she didn't know what to say, but any idiot with brain in his head would know enough to speak out against those types of threats (even if underneath she agrees).

21. She should have
heard it or read it by now, ya know, because she read all the papers, every one of them, can't name a specific rag, but she reads 'em all ya know.

22. Agreed. Which makes her just as guilty as the person who did it.
By not saying anything will just encourage their radical base.

17. I would actually be happier with that
I think she is inciting the fucktards, one of whom is going to attempt to go after Obama. This is some fucked up shit.

26. That, or, who knows ...
... 'security' plants who want Obama more closely 'guarded'.

I don't trust the process, and the SS has a lousy record with certain candidates ... and one young, bright president in particular, 45 years ago.

23. Typical
I would not expect Palin to have stopped to condemn a comment like that. It's perfectly in hateful character for her. Does anyone else remember that audio footage of her on some radio talk show in Alaska and when one of her political opponents was referred to as a "bitch" she just laughed? It's the same thing, really - she loves the hate. What a frightening woman.

27. The Secret Service...
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 10:59 PM by OU812MonkeyBoy
...likely didn't hear anything because they have constant chatter going on in their earpiece. They're constantly getting assignment updates, status checks and other info as well. On top of that, they constantly scan the crowd for any movement that would be out of the norm.

Them stopping Code Pink is beause Code Pink goes out of the way to draw attention to themselves. Not that that's a bad thing, but they're on the list of groups to be watched heavily.

I'll cut the S/S some slack here. I've been a part of details with S/S in the past. Not as a S/S agent, but on a local level. So I've heard the chatter that is going on, and it's constant.
