Poll: Obama Takes 6-Point Lead in Ohio
Source: Washington Post

Aided by the faltering economy, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has the upper hand in the race for the state of Ohio, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, putting Republican John McCain at a disadvantage in a state considered vital to his chances of winning the White House in November.

The state's voters, long suffering from a poor economy and newly battered by the turmoil in the financial, credit and housing markets, give Obama stronger marks on handling the economy, creating jobs and on tax policy. The Illinois senator also has a big advantage as the candidate more in tune with the economic problems people are confronting, a significant benefit as more than half of all voters call the economy and jobs the election's top issue.

Overall, among likely voters in the new poll, 51 percent said they would support Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden, if the election were held today, while 45 percent said they would back McCain and the GOP vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Ohio voters see McCain as more capable of dealing with Iraq and terrorism, but those issues are far less important this year. Just 9 percent of voters call them their top voting issues. . .

Can't even keep up with the avalanche today.

I know it ain't over till it's over, but if Ohio goes blue - it's over.

6. And a damned good thing, I would say.
Of course, the Browns and Bengals both suck.

However, I say that as a Lions' fan, the ALLTIME suckiest team.

12. See you Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m., on ABC. National TV. Sweet.
Better pack a lunch.

Seriously, I like Ohio State. We share a mutual loathing for a certain school that I would rather not name.

But I hope we kick your butt. After that, all the best. I will root for you passionately in your last Big Ten game of the season.

13. MSU now has a good coach who will not put up w/ all the ...
..... crap that MSU has had in the past.

Sadly the Big Ten is now a joke nationally ....
and until it starts to beat some other schools
it will remain so.

16. I agree with faygokid, McCain can't afford to concede Ohio
or any other battleground states for that matter. If McC loses Ohio, he loses. If he loses Florida, he loses. If he loses Virginia, he loses. If he loses Colorado, he loses. Any one of those is enough to put Obama over the magic number of 270.

I was tempted to make some insulting yet humorous remark about Michigan State, but remembered in time that I've had FOUR nephews attend that school. My own son attends a different school. (You take I-96 to US 23, then go south.) Don't get me started on RichRod. Not the right forum.

14. "Aided by the faltering economy" sounds like spin to me. Dems have best candidate. Say it now, say
it loud, say it PROUD!!! The Dems have the best candidates!

Under this paradigm, it does not matter if the issue of the day changes dramatically in October.

Repubs have two terrifiying clowns dancing like puppets on strings.

Now, who ya gonna vote for, America?

Come on, this one's in the bag. We win the right to salvage the wreck.

20. McCain's campaign began to unravel when he conceded Michigan
Okay, maybe a little before that even. When he picked an unknown know-nothing from nowhere to reassure voters the country would be in capable hands if his 72-year-old body wore out.

It reminds me of when we were kids playing baseball with a ball that had seen way too many innings, and the cover came off, and the yarn started to unwind as the ball whizzed through the air.

23. His campaign unravelled ...
When he suspended it, and flew to Washington to do nothing about the economy except look fucking stoopid ...

Those erratic antics cost him ..... and the Michigan concession consolidated his loser status ...

19. Turnout light in Ohio early voting window
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A weeklong period in which Ohioans could register to vote and immediately cast a ballot ended Monday with turnout that didn't quite match the expectations of election officials — or the campaign predictions that preceded it.

Early returns showed about 3,000 voters in Ohio's four largest counties took advantage of the disputed policy, a surprisingly low turnout to some elections officials.

The window was expected to benefit Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama, as his campaign and advocacy groups pushed Democratic-leaning groups such as college students and low-income voters to the polls.

Through Sunday, 1,152 voters had taken advantage of the policy in Franklin County, which includes Columbus. In Montgomery County, home to Dayton, roughly 250 people had used it. And in Hamilton County, where Cincinnati is located, about 454 voters had taken advantage of the window by midday Monday.

Another 1,000 or so were expected from Cuyahoga County, which includes Cleveland and is the state's most populous county.

"With all the hoopla we were anticipating a whole lot more," said Montgomery County Board of Elections Director Steve Harsman.
