Bush on bailout: 'It's going to take awhile' to fix financial system

President Bush told reporters this morning that "it's going to take awhile" for the $700 billion rescue plan to resolve problems in the nation's financial system.

Bush spoke after a meeting with business owners in San Antonio. "It's clear that these small business owners are dealing with the effects of a credit crunch," he says.

He says it will take some time for the Treasury Department to put in place an effective program that restores faith in the economy.

"Had we not done anything, people like the folks behind me would be a lot worse off. We'll make sure as time goes on this doesn't happen again, in the meantime we've got to solve the problem," he says.
