Police remove satirical (John) Howard statue
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 06:01 AM by rooboy
A one-tonne bronze statue of Prime Minister John Howard in an oversized Anzac uniform erected near Old Parliament House in Canberra has been removed by police.

Melbourne artist Greg Taylor put the statue, named "If the Boots don't fit", at Reconciliation Place to make a political statement.

The man who once placed a nude statue of the Queen and Prince Philip beside Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra produced the depiction of Mr Howard.

Mr Taylor admited he did not have permission to put the statue on the site before it was removed.

"It's just a little statement I felt I had to make," he said.

FYI, an ANZAC uniform is the military attire of the Australian and NZ soldiers during WWI.
