McCain: Obama lead growing because 'life isn't fair'
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Sen. John McCain said Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama's poll numbers are rising as the economy seems to sink "because life isn't fair."

"He certainly did nothing for the first few days," McCain told Fox News on Thursday. "I suspended my campaign, took our ads down, came back to Washington, met with the House folks and got on the phone, and also had face-to-face meetings."

New CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation polls of several key battleground states released Wednesday found Obama has made gains across the board -- either taking statistically significant leads or erasing McCain advantages -- over the past few weeks.

Since the financial crisis began in mid-September, Obama has taken and held a lead over McCain in the national CNN poll of polls.

His ads still ran. He didn't accomplish anything in terms of the bill. He had too many interviews to do :eyes:

45. Nah. This may be the only thing he's said all season that I like.
No politician should ever be expected to answer a question like: "Why is your opponent so far ahead?" As a response, "life is unfair" strikes me as an acceptable dodge; hell, it even suggests a touch of maturity that is refreshing after months of McCain arrogance.

5. I'm amazed at how poorly these people answer slightly challenging questions
I swear, *I* could handle that question better.

"Well, we clearly still have some work to do in getting our message out, that Democrats consistently blah blah blah."

Or the old standby, "Look, polls go up and down. We're not running our campaign based on the whims of pollsters blah blah."

But... "Life isn't fair?" WTF kind of answer is that??

11. What exactly did McCain think he was going to or did accomplish
It reminds me of Dubya (or most other Presidents) flying down to view disasters from the scene. Other than a photo-op, what does this accomplish that couldn't be accomplished by people already on the scene.

President whatever: I need to see for myself.
Interesting question: Why? Don't you trust the people on the scene? Don't you trust your own advisors?

Conversely. the "fair" thing would be for McCain to be ahead at the moment. Now I know why McCame blurted out in Des Moines that he's always wanted to be a dictator -- because he can't get legitimately elected as president. Unfair!

27. But he didnt suspend the videos, and he ended up reinstating his campaign within days.
Nothing had been done, and he decided to come back for the debate. All this shows is desperation for the job, or really the power. Power hungry people should not be given it, they rarely use it wisely, and blame others when they do wrong.

the opening line reads:

Sen. John McCain jokingly said Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama's poll numbers are rising as the economy seems to sink "because life isn't fair."

(bold mine)

Not sure the "whining" label fits all that well.

33. They may have used the word "jokingly," but we all know he meant every word.
McCain is mad as hell that his gimmick didn't work. HIS poll numbers were dropping, and in true repuke fashion, they created this mess of a plan to have him 'suspend' his campaign.

Problem is, we all saw him NOT suspending his campaign.
Not for one second.
If you don't believe me, ask David Letterman. ;)

30.  have to disagree yet again with McShame
this is one of those very rare moments when life *is* fair. Obama did what needed to be done, and gave his directions on what was required for the bill to pass muster...all in a calm, reassuring and presidential manner designed to prevent panic.

McShame didn't suspend his campaign. (Not that it would have mattered.)

He tried to use the situation to manipulate the debates to his favor. (And happily failed.)

He didn't head for DC or involve himself in any way until he thought it would help him, and then by lying to Letterman and rushing back like he was some kind of saviour.

And then did everything he could to *kill* the bailout, and offered absolutely zip to come up with an alternate solution.

And then as the markets tumbled, ran away from the results of his stupid stunts like a coward. While Obama addressed the press (and nation) again, and in a calm, reassuring and presidential manner.

So Obama should be up in the polls. Although if life was truly fair, he'd be up a lot more!

But in general life isn't fair. McShame has the best healthcare available lifelong, all paid for by taxpayers like me. And I've rarely had any and was left to die by my HMO back when I did.

McShame doesn't know which house he slept in last night. I'm getting close to losing the one house it took me 30 years to save up to buy.

McShame doesn't remember where he parked any of his 13 cars. I'm afraid my sole old car is going to need major work that I can't afford.

So somebody please call a waaambulance.

31. Oh, poor widdle Johnny! Isn't life fair to you? Those bad-old poll numbers!
Just don't have anything to do with them! Go hide out for the next five weeks -- don't pay attention to poll numbers, don't pay attention to anyone who wants to talk to you about politics. Especially don't let that mean-old governor from Alaska upset you. Just withdraw! Then, in mid-November, just figure on going back and being a senator.
