Who is stealing Park City (Utah) Obama signs?
Source: ABC4

PARK CITY - Could a campaign sign be so coveted that someone is stealing them? That might be one reason "Obama for President" signs are disappearing in a Park City neighborhood.

Bill Keshlear with the Utah Democratic Party says, “Oh they're hotcakes.” Obama swag - signs in particular - are in such high demand “we're going through literally thousands in the space of a couple of weeks.”

Local campaign headquarters can't keep anything in stock, which is a problem for the Wolfes, who realized their Obama sign was stolen. Ginger Wolfe says, “We woke up Saturday and it was gone.” They’re upset, and frustrated. Matt Wolfe says, “If someone’s coming and taking away signs because they disagree with Obama's campaign and they're taking away a perfectly legal chance for us to promote who we believe in, I'm extremely upset.”

The Wolfes are just one of several theft victims in their neighborhood. Next door, Ed DeSisto had two Obama signs stolen. One ripped off this garage and the other yanked from his garden.” DeSisto is trying to keep a positive attitude about his missing signs, saying, “I also feel encouraged because someone is excited enough to do that and that tells me the Obama campaign is being effective.”

Police say they have only one report of these thefts and no leads on who may be doing this.

...

At a ten dollar suggested donation for each sign it can really add up. One tip that might help to keep those signs in your yards - spreading some Crisco on the backs of the signs makes it tougher for someone to pull them out.

1. If you're going to use Crisco
make sure you buzz it in a blender with some habanero pepper.

No, you won't prevent the theft. Yes, you will have your revenge when the thief has to pee, even if he's wiped the Crisco off his hands. Set his willie on fire and he'll think twice about his chosen profession.

Capsaicin will tell him why theft is a bad idea, but it won't cause any real damage.

2. I prefer imbedded razor blades or punji pit. That'll keep the rethugs away (after they
learn their lesson).

3. So do I, but I detest the annoyance of being popped for assault
so habaneros are it for me.

I'm neither beautiful nor wealthy nor well connected enough to be assured of an acquittal.

10. Tripwires and...
Well-placed Claymore mines can be very effective, I heard. Add a 55 gallon drum of napalm to the claymores and thrill the neighborhood with a spectacular Foo-Gas display!

7. Film them and give the file to the police.
Then, if the cops ever make an arrest, make sure the LOCAL news channel gets involved.

8. What the thieves don't realize is that they're boosting Obama's contributions dramatically.
One thousand signs? Ten thousand dollars.

9. Could be stolen to post elsewhere?....
I know that sounds a bit "anti-inflammatory", but the truth is, these signs are damn hard to come by. I recently visited Portland, OR, and I had to donate $3 for any buttons or bumper stickers. I have no problem with that, but the signs were NO WHERE to be had. Rare at best.

I'm only saying it's very possible some greedy SOB might be stealing them to post in his/her yard. I thought about it myself...lol.

Utah is a lost cause btw. Very religious, very mormon, very right wing. The chances of an Obama sign making an impact would be nearly the same as putting one up in the restroom of the "Yankee Doodle Cafe" and expecting it to last more than 10 seconds without red neck piss and craps smeared on it.

Traveled to TX, NV, UT, WY and OR this past month...and those red states can be downright scary. WY is about as RED as you are going to get, and Obama signs were NO WHERE to be seen. Drove 2000 miles through TX and stayed in Dallas and San Antonio, and NEVER saw ONE Obama bumper sticker, pin or yard sign....NEVER!

12. I think the person who stole mine took it because they wanted it.
I had four signs in my yard - the Obama sign, a red and white one that says OUT OF IRAQ, one that says support our troops - end the war, and one that has a picture of a soldier holding a child in a bloody blanket that says Five Years Too Many. And a pink wooden peace sign. Three Obama signs have disappeared but the others haven't been disturbed at all.

15. backordered
I am in Texas and I ordered a car magnet, buttons and EXTRA yard signs (just in case, 'cause this is Texas) about a month ago. The car magnet and buttons came, but not the yard signs. Yesterday I called the Obama store and asked, and they said the yard signs were backordered from their supplier in Chicago.

Hopefully they will come in before the election!

14. I'd say it's Bill O'Reilly
And it's up to him to prove that he's not doing it.
