Rumsfeld makes emotional defense of War
"I know in my heart and my brain that America ain't what's wrong in the world," he told an audience of defense and foreign policy luminaries here that included some the fiercest European opponents of the war.

Rumsfeld spoke shortly after German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer told the same audience that events in Iraq had proven Germany's anti-war position to be right.

But Fischer said that everyone would be losers if the US coalition in Iraq were to fail now.

WHAT THE HECK??? EVERYONE WOULD BE LOSERS?? THEN WHY NOT SUPPORT US?
Does anyone sense a "we were wrong, won't admit it, but you were sort of right" from Germany Foreign Minister Fischers statements? This is consistent with German policy period. The Policy of "The United States is bad, but we will always be tardy helping them". It's rediculous, and I'm sick of it. They're as bad as the French. Germany hates the U.S. with a passion. They did nearly the same thing with Clinton, and it's only matured with Bush.

In my opinion Weapons of Mass Destruction should not have been the major reason for going into Iraq, it should have been Terrorists. Now we know Iraq had direct connections with North Korea on missile programs, and there have been several Al-Quada connections made as well. But Germany's lack of support has not only been a salt on our wounds in Iraq, but also Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, and Somalia just to name some. A Complete Year after Afghanistan was Liberated, Germany finally decided to help. Is it going to be 4 years for Iraq? I find Germany's failure, to be Extreme. I'm not going to vote for Bush in November, but I will NEVER vote for ANY President that appeases Germany. They are Truely the scum of the Earth. We need all the support we can get in Iraq so we can get the hell out of there, Sure Bush isn't helping, but Germany is even worse!

Thank you for reading.

2. So, you have no issue...
...with the fact that we invaded Iraq in the first place? The only things that bother you are 1) we did it on the false pretense of WMD, and 2) Germany didn't support us in an illegal and unjustified war?

Also, if you believe "Iraq had direct connections with North Korea on missile programs," then why not go after the source (i.e., North Korea)? Why ignore a country that has been making explicit threats to the U.S. in favor of attacking a country that posed no threat?

I'd be very interested in some elaboration -- but I believe you're going to have to start another thread to do it, as I expect this one will be locked, as it is not LBN.

Btw, welcome to DU.

11. I have this image in my mind...
My second son got pretty serious with a girl some years ago. I got to know her parents pretty well. The mom was okay. We got along and she seemed normal enough. The dad was forever holed up in a spare bedroom, online with an old 386 PC (this was P200 days ~=1996?) with a gargantuan old external modem. I guess the mom refused to clean the throne room, 'cause there were old computer parts buried in pizza boxes on every exposed horizontal (and some not so horizontal) surface. It was sort of like a dungeon where an IBM mainframe had exploded, then been buried in a tidal wave of trash. Dad was overweight, constantly dressed in stained A-shirts and sweatpants, and once he found out I was a computer professional, he never missed a chance to impress me with his computer vocabulary, most of which was either made up or misunderstood.

Every time I see a thread like this, I think of Dad in his dark dungeon shrieking and tearing at his fringe of hair.

Actually, dad was okay, if he just could have pulled his head out of the tube now and then.

7. I should not value your post with a comment
But you should know that German troops (Special Forces that is) were in Afghanistan from the beginning. There even were German troops involved in the Iraq war (not in Iraq itself, but in several allied neighboring nations)

I'm not sure what you mean with "They did nearly the same thing with Clinton", but then again: I don't want to know.

10. Welcome to DU, Liberal Dragon.
You are in LBN so you need a link. I'm not sure what support these other countries are supposed to give us. We said that we were going to do this without them and that's what we did. Last year, when the German foreign minister switched over to English he told Rumsfeld that he could not go to the German people and say they had to go to war when even he did not believe it.

I am of German descent and understand their reluctance to enter into an elective war; they have a history, as does Japan, and have learned from their past actions. My father may STILL believe that the re-unification of Germany was a bad idea. And I just can't get that excited about Iraq's murky connections when Pakistan, our new friend, is a Muslim country with nukes and an apparent history of channeling components and plans to other countries.

Stop blaming everyone else. If our president truly wanted help in Iraq he would make an effort to get it. He has destroyed our credibility in the world and is making no attempt to restore it. We own that.

14. He is right *smile*,...HE AND HIS CABAL IS WHAT'S WRONG IN THE WORLD!!!
Sorry for yelling,...I occasionally take liberty with my "emotional" appeals, too :D

How fuckin' (yeah, I'm using foul language, so SUE ME) abusive for him to pull all his victims (the entire country) into the zone of his "rationalized" innocence. He grosses me out like no other. He has every trait of an anti-social criminal. He simply operates on a altered, economic and political level. Sick "fuck"!!! I cannot believe the likes of him are in control of this country. God, please, let me witness any form of divine justice against this demonic human being.

I apologize in advance for my own "escape" of emotion. But, damnit,...I am sick of this crap!!!

Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 09:17 PM by Jazzgirl
Most of them came from Saudi Arabia. Thats lame! There has been no al Qaeda connection made so what are you talking about? Do a little more research.
