Chinese Flour Now Causing Concern
Source: AP

The Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) called on the government, particularly the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD), to take proactive measures on the possibility that melamine could also be present in imported flour from China .

Jesus L. Arranza, FPI president, said since melamine is used to bring up the protein reading of food products, it is not far fetched that just like milk, flour coming from China could also be contaminated with melamine.

A second headline today:
HK finds melamine in baby cereal, crackers
http://www.pr-inside.com/hk-finds-melamine-in-baby-cereal-r829932.htm

HONG KONG (AP) - The Hong Kong government says it has found traces of the industrial chemical melamine in Chinese-made baby cereal and crackers.

It said in a statement Friday that it has found melamine in Heinz DHA+AA vegetable formula baby cereal and in steamed potato wasabi crackers produced by Silang House.

It says both products were made in mainland China.

Calls to Heinz's Hong Kong office were not answered Friday evening.
The government urged the manufacturers to stop selling the products in Hong Kong.

--------

It makes sense. If melamine was added to wheat/corn and used in pet food to increase protein percentages, then why wouldn't the exact same wheat/corn be used in people food?

1. CHINA RISING
While we've borrowed and borrowed from China to pay for a war of choice, now we need another 700 Billion from them, Bush has run your kids and their kids credit card to the limit. We are blowing up 350 Million Year old Appalachian Mountains to feed their coal fired power plants ( which will pollute the US with C02 ) while we are sending our jobs over there so we can buy cheap toxic goods. While our military is being worn thin, China is taking our money and building it's military and space program. Heck of a job Bushie ! www.wisecountyissues.com

12. Our wonderful Comgress decided not to require labeling
on foods from other countries. Fulfilling their obligations to their masters--corporations. this was done a few years ago and I guess not many people noticed. Now we have this problem. foods from many countries are tainted--why not?--our Gov. doesn't care.

9. I recently had atrial fibrillation, cause can be herbal stimulants
among other things. I am highly suspicious of any vitamins, herbal mint tea I was drinking, and am examining my diet thoroughly. repugs allowed this to happen. I tell any repug who claims we're better off with repugs "They would kill you, your kids, and your grandkids to make a nickel."

13. Why on Earth is China exporting food?!
Perhaps the defining characteristic of Chinese history through the centuries is that China has had just enough to feed its outsized population -- in good years. In bad years, all bets are off.

And now they're exporting staples like flour?! What's up with that?

15. I'm concerned that Chinese basic chemicals will be used here to make
more complicated products like OTC and generic medicine and health products.

Remember that toothpaste?

I hope that Congress will have the you-know-whats to require country of origin labeling for ALL INGRDIENTS!

Now that the Chinese are pissed about taking a hit on investments that they should have known were risky, there will be no hope of limiting risk to US consumers, wittingly and unwittingly, of Chinese products.

Lead for lunch, anyone?

Thanks, Mr. Shurb! How about seconds?

16. Avoid processed food. Buy local. Buy organic AND local when possible.
And NEVER EVER buy anything in the way of processed foods from China, and that includes flour.
