Florida congressman points to Palin to rally Jews to Obama
Source: CNN

Rep. Alcee Hastings told an audience of Jewish Democrats Wednesday that they should be wary of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.”

“If Sarah Palin isn’t enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention,” Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida said at a panel about the shared agenda of Jewish and African-American Democrats Wednesday. Hastings, who is African-American, was explaining what he intended to tell his Jewish constituents about the presidential race. “Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through,” Hastings added as the room erupted in laughter and applause.

After telling attendees that the most important thing Jewish and African-American Democrats could do to support one another was to get Sen. Barack Obama elected president, Hastings had one more message: “For those of you like me that supported Sen. Hillary Clinton, she lost! Get over it!” ...

3. It could be some sort of city mouse/country mouse thing
Jews and blacks are predominantly urban in the US, not the sorts of folks who dress moose. The sotto voce message is "beware of rednecks toting guns."

Anyway, I think that's what he's trying to say. Other than that, I've got nothing.

4. Thats a bullshit blanket statement.
I tote guns, never stripped a moose, but i have dressed many other types of game in my day. I care what happens to Jews, Blacks, and all peoples.

I know it's trying to do something for our side, but it could have been more tactful for sure.

10. I agree with you on principle. But remember this one thing: Karl Rove's candidates win elections.
We can be as high-minded and principled as we want to be. But if we lose the election, it's all rather academic, isn't it?

Amendment to subject pst: Karl Rove's candidates get close enough to steal the election.

Which boils down to the same thing; Karl Rove's candidates take office...

7. interestingly
I get what he is saying.

With palin it's only a matter of time before it's open season on certain groups of people with which she disagrees. We already knows what she does to those who do not fit her program up there in AK. She's already made it open season on young women and children in Alaska by forcing them to pay for their own rape kit exams and by creating the most welcoming environment in the Union for sexual predators to ply their perversion.

She wants to turn this country into a fuckin' Peyton Place like she has Alaska.
