McCain tells Minn.: It’s ’Country first or Obama first’
Source: AP

BLAINE, Minn. - Looking to capitalize on a suddenly close Minnesota race and reassure voters anxious about economic jitters, Republican presidential hopeful John McCain told a massive crowd today that his administration wouldn’t be afraid to ruffle feathers in Washington or on Wall Street.

McCain and running mate Sarah Palin spoke from the head of a jam-packed airport hanger in Anoka County, a critical area of a surprisingly competitive state. Their ticket is about even with that of Democrat Barack Obama and Joe Biden in a state with an unrivaled string of backing Democrats for president.

"A vote for Senator Obama will guarantee higher taxes, fewer jobs and a bigger federal government. His policies will deepen our recession," McCain said. "A vote for me will guarantee that the forces that brought down our economy will be out of business. I will end the corrupt practices on Wall Street and the backroom deals in Washington, D.C."

"That’s how we see the election," he added, "Country first or Obama first."

20. McCain has 83 Wall Street lobbyists working for his campaign
Just who's feathers is McCain going to ruffle? According to a new story out by Mother Jones, McCain has 83 Wall Street lobbyists working for his campaign plus 94 other lobbyists - for a total of 177 lobbyists.

Hey McCain, how can you be against the old boys when they all work for you?

Why wouldn't you hold such an event in a venue that's built to hold that many people, like say, a sports arena? Why an airport hangar?

Call me skeptical.

17. The GOP chickens will still vote for Colonel McSanders
For a long time I couldn't believe such a large percentage of our population was so dumb. The 2000 election helped me move that way, and the 2004 election even more so. Now, with Bush in the 28% approval range (the stable dumbfuck population), how can McCain be more than a couple points higher? I would like to think it isn't racial prejudice, but sadly there seems to be no other viable answer. While I accept that 1/4 of the voters may have been duped into thinking Bush was a decent president four years ago, how could they possibly want another four years of this crap?

"I didn’t decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president."
