Shocker: Palin Cancels Big California Swing
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who was to star at two major California fundraisers and an Orange County rally for 15,000 next week, has canceled her two-day swing through the Golden State, campaign sources said.

The change is a shocker, because Palin's presence had electrified the GOP base in California. Party insiders were distributing 15,000 tickets to her Sept. 26 rally in Orange County -- and fundraisers reported an almost instantaneous sell-out of her two $1,000-a-head Sept. 25 fundraising events in Orange County and Santa Clara.

Both fundraisers had generated such high ticket sales that the OC Lincoln Club event was moved to the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and the Bay Area event was moved from the Woodside home of Tom Siebel to the huge Santa Clara Convention Center.

The change comes in the same week a new Field Poll showed that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama still leads Republican presidential candidate John McCain in California by a whopping 16-point margin.

32. The GOP now concedes the popular vote
One thing they could do in CA by hook, crook and GOP turnout would be to rack up numbers for popular vote legitimacy. In the reverse of the HHH 1968 strategy, they will have to play the electoral game by writing off large Dem power bases. For Dems then, racking up the popular vote in battleground states pretty much would mean a narrow popular vote margin at least. They lost both fairly narrowly.

The GOP does not have a very pretty defensive scenario if it cannot rally huge numbers where it cannot win electorally. The overflow of getting crushed in CA will affect Nevada and others. All those little states will be vulnerable to massive Dem attention. By the math it is very ugly indeed. With the REAL major news showing critical disasters for which GOP performance is execrable, the substitute drama strategies look harrowing, risky, insane, impossible- at least impossible of having with any confidence, which means a crumbling here and there in their main lines of "success".

Seizing the news cycle will mean: tamping down the economic crisis, kind of like stopping the head beating against the wall temporarily, creating foreign policy turmoil somehow valuable to sustaining the McCain myths already under assault, trashing Obama mercilessly(somehow), basically doing a lot of shouting and distraction.

A cornered beast is very dangerous and that is how I would characterize the Bush regime-backed puppet ticket. In this case McCain/Palin are NOT the center of resistance, but the criminal cabal behind them. NO ONE has anything much to gain. Behind the scenes, if the Bush regime accepts a defeat scenario(that it will resist to lessen Dem power) it will be negotiating its escape and eventual return and looking for deals in the massive crisis hitting us to let go quietly. The agony of relinquishing power makes that strategic withdrawal very very late in the day and very poorly organized.

I expect on the surface you will see the GOP try to bluff this out, which they may do successfully enough to forestall a massive landslide. If they try cheating in an obvious loss they will be exposed and hopefully under microscopic attack by Dems to regain stolen House and Senate seats. At this point they are poised to both lose and have the lights go on with their hands still in the cookie jar.

For the GOP not even to show in California at this stage is a very good sign for us, even if it only because their poorly prepared VP candidate needs constant, unreliable retuning. part of the problem is that McCain is part of her training. She needs a literal transfusion of guru fakery that will not work very well either, except this way she is also dragging them both down, losing time, whipping up Dems in states already surrendered by the GOP.

55. There is now a bill on Herr. Gropenator's desk where ...
California's electoral votes would not go to the winner of the popular
vote in California, but rather the popular vote throughout the country.

Here is the context of the letter informing CA citizens:

California is the largest state in the union, but when it comes to electing the president it can feel like the smallest.

California is ignored by presidential candidates because they believe the electoral vote is already locked up. And, with the Electoral College the way it is, they might even be right. But, if America chooses our president by the national popular vote, then suddenly California would rise to the top of every candidate's priorities. The more Californians who vote for a candidate, the more that increases the popular count and the greater say you have in choosing a leader for the entire country. Since one out of every ten Americans live here, doesn't that make sense?

The California Legislature has approved legislation that would award California's electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote. The bill now goes to Governor Schwarzenegger and he will make his decision any time. You must act today to let him know how you feel.

Contact Governor Schwarzenegger now and urge him to sign the National Popular Vote bill.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Phone: 916-445-2841

The Electoral College system gurantees that most states are completely ignored during the campaign process.

- Voters are disenfranchised
- The policy needs of most states are ignored
- Over 92% of all campaigns visits and advertising during the peak campaign period are concentrated in just 16 states
- Two-thirds of all attention during the presidential election is concentrated in just 5 so-called battleground states

The current system leaves the decision for who will be President to a few states, and California and most other states sit on the sidelines.

We all remember what happened in 2000 when Al Gore received over 500,000 more popular votes then the Electoral College winner. No other country uses a system like our electoral college system to elect its Chief Executive, and we don't elect our Governors, Senators, or any other officeholders this way. That's why a nationwide popular election of the President is supported by over 70% of Americans.

The National Popular Vote plan has been endorsed by the New York Times, the Chicago Sun Times, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Sacramento Bee, the Los Angeles Times, and legislation has already been passed in several states.

The Governor could make his decision any day. Please take action now so your voice is heard before it's too late.

Thanks you for everything you do!

-Charles

I would add that I think the Bush cabal has done what it set out to do -- economically destroy the US. They've always been a hidden parasite. Now that they've bled us dry, they'll go onto other hosts. The Bush family is, was and will always be one of the primary enemies of the USA but we're too weak for them to bother with now.

67. Think back
IF things had gone even better for these incompetent, super entitled despots, privatized Social Security would be today's public line of defense against the second Great Depression. Pension plans already are bleeding around the edges but the Bushies are forced(like SCOTUS performing a flimflam coup in 2000) to go directly to the Treasury instead. They would have forced the people on the front lines in a battle to give the regime everything. The same is true about the war dominoes they had planned, about an airplane NOT striking Congress and giving them effectual control of all politics in America beyond what you can even imagine now.

So they are forced to skip many entrapping steps and go directly for their set goals anyway. This may be true of the election too, once they decide whether they are going to go through with installing McSame. How can the rather inevitable loss this November be stopped? Or, can the Bush family again by social blackmail and intrigue get away scot free without any question of having to commandeer a late night plane flight to Paraguay.

Power has only been a road to cash.

We're all empty now and of little use. They don't give a damn about us from here. Cheney is moving to Dubai. George has his rat farm in Paraguay. They're kicking us to the curb.

Now that we have our country back, we can make sure these monsters never invade again.
