(Joe) Clark blasts Stronach Candidacy (Toronto Star)
http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Art

OTTAWA - The well-heeled, carefully scripted leadership candidacy of Belinda Stronach for the Conservative party's top job came under fire yesterday from inside and outside the race.

Former Progressive Conservative leader Joe Clark said Stronach's wealth is the only thing that got her this far in the race.

Meanwhile, Stronach's rivals within the party accused her of being afraid to engage in free-wheeling debates sponsored by the national television networks and of sponsoring "phony polls" to boost her profile.

In an interview with the Star, Clark said it is impossible to tell if Stronach, who has styled herself as a fiscally conservative, socially moderate candidate, has anything of substance to offer.

"What is most alarming about her candidacy is that it reflects the notion that money can buy anything and that there's a price for everything," Clark said in an interview with the Star.

"I'm in no better position than anyone else to judge her position on matters of substance. No one knows. But she's a candidate because her father is wealthy. And that is a distressing commentary on public life."

-Give 'em hell, Joe!

1. Did you see that tabloid piece?
Where it was rumoured Belinda and Bill were having an affair and Bill is set to leave Hillary?

What I was curious about is why Bill would be interested in such a dingbat? Oh well...

2. I think she's trying to hint about that without actually referring to it.
Hence the terse 'no comments' at press conference. That's tantamount to an admission of something having happened. She's using his stature to further her cause.

4. K-i-s-s-i-n-g...first there's love
Yeah I read that one in Frank Magazine about Bill and Belinda hooking up...
No doubt there might have been a Lewinsky involved--but I doubt the committment and the Belinda 'homewrecker' charge...

She's a dingbat--but she is a hottie (and she has big bucks)

As far as Joe--it's not his party anymore, so what does he care

Allan Gregg (another Conservative!! tells you something) had the best take 'just because you hang around surgeons, it doesn't mean you can do surgery' ergo...'just because Belinda hangs with politicians, doesn't make her one'
