Osama doesn't head Qaida day-to-day ops: CIA
Source: Times of India

LOS ANGELES: Osama bin Laden is no longer believed to be the head of al-Qaida's day-to-day operations, but the United States' capturing or killing him would still have a powerful effect on the organization, CIA director Michael Hayden said.

There is no greater security threat facing the United States than al-Qaida and its associates, Hayden said in a speech to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council.

The CIA's top issues, however, also include nuclear proliferation - particularly in countries like Iran, North Korea and more recently Syria, he said.

The greatest challenge lies in detecting those countries who might be developing in secret, Hayden said on Tuesday, as access to sensitive technologies is no longer the exclusive domain of a few advanced nations.

1. I'm not sure Osama ever did. I'm also skeptical that he's still alive.

8. Yeah, and it was SO disappointing to hear Biden use the "let's get bin Laden" meme in his DNC speech
Doesn't matter who is in the WH apparently. That's their story and they're stickin' to it.
How else are they gonna get people to return to Afghanistan?

For once it would be nice to have a government that leveled with people.
Why are we in Afghanistan? For several reasons, the least of which has to do with
bin Laden. It's all about the Caspian Sea corridor and pipelines and resources.

No change...more of the same as regards the overall goals it seems, even if the means
to that end are slightly different.

3. What the f*ck does Hayden know?
He's the guy who denied that the phrase "probable cause" was part of the Fourth Amendment. The man is either an idiot or an unrepentant liar. In his case, I suspect the latter. Either way, he shouldn't be trusted with anything other than taking out the trash.

4. I have been predicting that, if he is still alive, the Bush administration
will catch him soon (if they don't have him already). Their dilemma is that once they announce that they have caught him, they expect McCain will get a poll bump and maybe win the election, but they also fear that they won't have anything to use to scare Americans.

The solution -- this CIA announcement. It's all a lot of sound and fury if you want to ask me. You can never tell what is true with this crowd. It's all smoke, mirrors, make-believe, an action movie made to look real.

The Bush administration's definition of truth: whatever the Republican Party can sell to the American people.

5. He's a symbol of our "defeat" at the hands of terrorists. Obama knows this, and that's why he talks
about him so much.

6. And the evidence for this is?
Imperialists, especially economically-challenged imperialists, tend to make up their own reality as they go along spinning

7. al-Qaida doesn't have "day to day operations".
What the fuck?

They keep trying to invent a reality that doesn't exist.

Like he oversees payroll and accounts payable and shit.

Let's see Osama's Day-Timer please!

16. Take #2 to lunch! LOL!
#2 has such a hard time, having been killed so much. He really deserves a lunch with the boss from time to time.

17. It must hurt to be killed like that - time and again.
It's important for those under you to know that you care about what happens to them and you appreciate all their hard work for the overall effort.

14. What ever happened to Bid Laden's end stage renal failure?
Seriously, did he manage to get a kidney transplant in a cave? He was on dialysis, and most dialysis patients need a transplant within several years.
