Bennett Admits Losing 'A Lot of Money'
WASHINGTON (AP) - Family values advocate William Bennett rejects reports that he lost $8 million at casinos over 10 years but acknowledged it was "a lot of money."

<snip>

In an interview to be aired Saturday on CNBC's "Tim Russert" show, Bennett said he was never a gambling addict, and that his history of betting shouldn't diminish his credibility.

"I'm not a hypocrite," he said. "I never got on the soapbox about gambling."

2. But he does know that gambling IS a vice
I mean, I suppose since it's HIS vice it doesn't count, but for others who have become addicted to the thrill of gambling to the point of losing their life savings, homes, and sanity - well, it is a vice

3. it was probably more
One thing I know about degenerate gamblers...they are very poor record keepers.

Since we know that there are documents from major casinos showing that he lost $8 million then we can be confident that even more money was lost. Why? Because gamblers do wander out of their rooms from time to time and try different casinos to change their luck. We don't even know how much he lost at smaller casinos or at casino destinations other than the AC and Vegas casinos who leaked the documents showing his huge losses in AC and at Bellagio. There are lots of other places where he likely lost money from Tahoe to Biloxi to Bahamas, I would say.

Personally, I think it is a lie when someone who lost more than $8 million makes a statement like, "I don't know what I lost but it wasn't $8 million." And when someone is putting himself forward as a moral arbiter, when he is a damned liar to feed and protect his addiction, yep, folks, that IS hypocrisy.

This snake needs to crawl back in his hole.

4. Never got on the soapbox about gambling
Oh, so it's okay then, I guess! I don't recall Mr. Bennett getting on the soapbox to denounce screwing decapitated goats in front of the neighborhood children, either. Is there anything else you'd like to get off your chest, Mr. Bennett?

7. Bill
Shut-up and GO AWAY. Your time is up. You can't be a self-appointed moral gaurdian and also pick and choose which vices you yourself indulge in.

He is a total hypocrite, if a regular person lost their kids college fund its bad, but Bennett thinks he can blow $8,000,000 or more becasue he's rich. If he did get into fincial trouble he'd just write another blowhard book and guzzle at the conservative welfare trough.

9. Bennet has also lost a lot of credibility
You can't pick and choose your moral principles Bill you fat fuck. How many times have I heard you say that?

How many sins are you guilty of?

Gluttony - an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Avarice - is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual.

Pride - is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Anger - is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.

Lust - is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body. (alcohol, cigars, food)

That's 5 out of 7. Burn in hell baby.

13. Yeah, but...
I gamble a little (not millions or billions, not even thousands...) and I can tell you that $8 million coin in or even chips in (but I believe Bennett is a slot player) is nowhere near an actual $8 million spent.

Not of HIS money, anyway. For example, when you play a slot machine, you may put $100 in it, and you win and lose and win and lose and may actually go through $1,000 but you never put more in the machine.

It always amazes me when I look at the annual reports my casino sends me and see the money they claim I spent. For example, last year I maybe put $2,000 of my money into the machines. I won a jackpot of $4,800; and yet I didn't pay taxes on it because I had documented proof that I had put $28,000 (coin in) and had won much less than that.

So Bennett may have only spent $1 million of his money.

He plays high dollar slot machines; these generally pay out at a higher rate than the nickel and quarter machines I play. So he probably is doing OK out there.

But I have to say this, I think he has a gambling problem. Otherwise, why would he spend so much money? And I think anyone who plays $500 slot machines is crazy.

And I hate his politics. But I still question the amount he has actually spent.

15. But no.
The records that were leaked were not of coin or chips in. They were of wire transfers from Bennett's bank account to cover his losses.

Unless you're suggesting that he took his winnings out in cash and kept wiring more money to cover his bets, that $8 mil is all losses.

20. Well, then that is a horse of a different color!
Shame on him! Where was he when I needed another $100 for video poker!!!! (LOL)

Well, then folks, rest assured that it was a lot more than $8 million he lost. Because it represents about 15-20 times that in coin in, especially on the games he played.

Sheesh.

14. Sorry, Bennie, you're a dead pundit walking
I could manage to feel sorry for you if you were merely an addict. But you blew your own credibility away. You're not only a hypocrite, you're a mental case if you think gambling away nearly a million dollars a year is "relaxing." Now shut up and go sit in the back row with Gringrich, North, and Quayle.

Lookout, Big Bill is making his move, he's signed on to the finance committee of the republican senatorial candidate in IL, so he has to come out of hiding.

He's been off the bloviating circuit so long I don't know how he can stand it. The gas buildup must be enormous.

And what kind of example is this? Has he no shame? This is no more excusable or attractive than a slobbering drunk, or a brain-fried speed freak, or a vicious Wall Street workaholic, or a grossly obese over-eater. Ick, ick, ick.
