New Hampshire governor on jury duty
Thursday, February 5, 2004 Posted: 1739 GMT ( 1:39 AM HKT)

BRENTWOOD, New Hampshire (AP) -- Think you're too busy for jury duty? Just ask Craig Benson.

The New Hampshire governor is a juror in a child sexual assault case that started Wednesday. Benson said he did not try to use his office to claim he shouldn't serve, and to his surprise, neither did anyone else.

"A number of people told me I would never get picked," the high-tech CEO-turned freshman governor said Wednesday during a break in the trial in southeastern New Hampshire. "But I'm excited to be part of the system."

As the chief law enforcement officer of the state, I am surprised that he was actually seated on a jury :eyes:

1. Remember how Bush* dodged his jury duty?
Was called for a drunk driving case, got himself excused because "as governor, he might be called upon for clemency in a death penalty case".

Mostly, it was an excuse to avoid getting put under oath to testify about his own DUI record (he left that part of the jury form blank....)

2. Isn't it a crime to omit a material fact on a jury duty questionairre?
Sounds like perjury to me.
