Defense Secretary Robert Gates tells the House Armed Services Committee that we have entered the "endgame" in Iraq.

He says the changes on the ground in Iraq are “fundamental changes in the nature of the conflict.”

“I believe that we have now entered that endgame and our decisions today and in the months ahead will be critical to regional stability and our international security interest for years to come,” he says.

Gates tells lawmakers that the next president should keep in mind that the United States will be in Iraq for years to come, "but in increasingly changing and limited ways.”
