Report: North Korean leader alive but ill
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 09:32 PM by DogPoundPup
Source: Yahoo news

SEOUL, South Korea - A South Korean news report says North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is alive but ill.

The Yonhap news agency cited an unidentified South Korean government official as saying Wednesday that Kim appeared to have suffered a collapse, a term in Korean normally used to indicate a grave illness such as a stroke. However, the official said Kim is definitely still alive.

Kim did not appear at a parade Tuesday commemorating North Korea's founding 60 years ago, intensifying speculation that he may be seriously ill.

Western intelligence officials said Kim's failure to appear at the key national event may indicate that he is seriously ill and could even have had a stroke, though they cautioned that this had not been independently confirmed.

Kim Jong Il may be gravely ill, jeopardizing talks

Neither the White House nor the State Department would comment publicly on Kim's health, noting that the North Korean government is one of the most opaque and secretive on Earth.

But U.S. officials said privately they were concerned that Kim's apparently failing health jeopardized six-nation talks aimed at ridding North Korea of its nuclear weapons. The United States has been a wary partner in those talks, but their success is one of the Bush administration's signature foreign policy goals.

6. Let me get this straight...
'SEOUL, South Korea - A South Korean news report says North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is alive but ill.'

Okay, he's Il, we got that, but is he still Kim Jong, too?

Or Kim Jong Not Feeling Well?

Kim Jong Under The Weather?

Or did he change his name to Kim Jong Is Alive But Ill?

14. North Korea denies Kim is unwell
Source: BBC

North Korea has rebuffed reports that leader Kim Jong-il has collapsed as a result of illness, following his failure to appear at a military parade.

"We see such reports as not only worthless but rather as a conspiracy plot," top North Korean diplomat Song Il-ho told Japan's Kyodo news agency.

A South Korean diplomat was earlier quoted as saying Mr Kim "almost certainly" has health problems.

The reclusive leader was absent from an important military parade on Tuesday. Earlier, Western intelligence officials said Mr Kim might have suffered a stroke. According to the South Korean diplomat, the illness was "not serious enough to threaten his life".
