Associated PressNEW YORK: Gannett Co. said Tuesday it is cutting about 100 management jobs at its newspapers across the U.S., less than a month after the largest newspaper publisher eliminated some 1,000 positions.
As it has in the rest of the newspaper industry, revenue at Gannett has declined faster than anticipated in the face of the weakening economy and continuing shifts of audiences and ad dollars to the Internet.
Before last month's job cuts, which included 600 layoffs, the revenue decline was nearly three times as large as the cost reductions the company made earlier in the year, Gannett said.

Some employees who have performed those duties at individual newspapers were named group directors Tuesday, while others are being laid off. Company spokeswoman Tara Connell said the reorganization took effect Tuesday, though some of the managers will stay for a limited time for farewells, transitional duties and other tasks.
