McCain campaign on Palin questions: "this nonsense is over."
Source: Associated Press

McCain takes spotlight — with Palin family By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer
6 minutes ago

ST. PAUL, Minn. - John McCain took the spotlight Wednesday in this excited convention city where he will claim the Republican presidential nomination, arriving with hugs for running mate Sarah Palin and her pregnant daughter — and a handshake for the 17-year-old's husband-to-be.

Even before McCain's plane landed, his campaign struck back heatedly at the persistent questions about his surprise choice for vice president, who has been buffeted by political and personal revelations. McCain's campaign declared "this nonsense is over" and announced a new ad to tout Palin's credentials.

McCain will be nominated Wednesday night in a roaring roll call and will deliver his acceptance speech Thursday. Palin will address the convention Wednesday night.

She was waiting at the airport to greet McCain. He stepped off his blue-and-white plane, dubbed "Straight Talk Express," at noon — just as Democratic rival Barack Obama was in the middle of a campaign speech in New Philadelphia, Ohio. The dual scene was captured in split screen television shots.

Sorry McCain, but just because your people say the "nonsense is over" doesn't make it so. Take the AIP issue for instance: she legitimatized them by speaking to them, and if Michelle Obama is fair game, then so is Todd Palin and his six year membership in that seccessionist organization.

And what is with that fucking add? They really think her "experience" equals Obamas? I just hope the American people aren't that stupid.

4. That's the problem with the "outside the box" choice
and this is why I am now 100% grateful that Obama chose Biden.

If you get a VP from "outside the box," people want to know who the person is, where they come from, and so forth.

The media has just begun to dig, and I hope McCain keeps bitching about it, 'cause the more he bitches, the more they'll gleefully dive in.

tells you how out of touch the Mc Cain campaign must be.

The Obama campaign must just be sitting on the sidelines, shaking their heads. They glance over at each other - --- "WOW".

55. OH BULLSHIT...
.... if that were true, why is it that Kerry wasn't the "victim" of the swiftboat smears?

the Repukes routinely use this dirty rhetoric, but when it is used against them they whine like stuck pigs.

Fuck these assholes - they have had a rhetoric free ride long enough.

Obama will, as he should, declare the family off limits, while the non-campaign-associated attack dogs on our side will turn the screws.

Just like they have always done. Anyone who thinks this shit doesn't work should ask themselves how a no-count dumbass like W got elected president - this is EXACTLY how, with lies about "I invented the internet" and somesuch.

If you don't have the stomach for politics as it is practiced in modern america, sit on the sidelines and watch and learn.

30. I used to know someone like him
well, like all extremist republicans -- and one day he announced with venom, "christmas is canceled!" because he wasn't getting his way.

was christmas canceled? Happily, sanity prevailed for the others and no, christmas was NOT canceled.

And neither is this "nonsense" over. Is it of any worth to point out that McCain has just called vetting someone and seeking objective info re their qualifications "nonsense"? Perhaps at this point, it doesn't seem too worthy of attention...But I can't help but wonder what kind of possible president would think this way.

This is the melt down of a spoiled narcissist who is used to getting special treatment finally getting a taste of his own medicine. Oh, how he hates to not be in control of the narrative. Now, let the pot simmer a liiiittle while longer and guess what, news outlets? your britney/anna nicole goldmine is here, where you least expected it. On the "Straight Talk Express" as it careens to sure political demise and public humiliation.

yes, the public will love to watch the unraveling by the second and the more the media makes fun of him and digs a bit deeper, the more angry he will get and the more fascinated america will get and the higher the ratings will go and the more the media will dig....

The fun has only just begun, my friend.

45. The Veep selection rules broken
Oh, let's start with the secondary ones. Not a large or even crucially contested state. Not a known vetted person. No experience. No extreme innate political talents or charisma. A caricature of "balance". No one dares step off THAT seesaw or the other will go flying. No possibility of being a team member or able to carry on ANYTHING should McCain need replacement.

Yet it is the biggest rule of all on which everyone is choking, a feast for Dems, a barbed bone for the GOP. DO NO HARM. In every way imaginable she does just that. Alienates her base groups through extremism.
Corruption, lying(right in her acceptance speech!). The list is mind boggling and it is the ongoing distraction that has literally blown away the entire campaign. McGovern in similar circumstances tried getting rid of the problem. That didn't work and perseverance by McCain just keeps the wound open.

Bush may have been the worst POTUS(illegal as he was) ever and Cheney the most evil, Palin by far is the politically worst Veep pick I can think of or could ever imagine. If there were live third rails in Veep selection to avoid, McCain lies stretched out, bound in rope all over them.

Now if there was a sincere movement or personal charisma to keep the faithful remotely interested in McCain even on the level of the sincere Goldwater conservatives, it would not be so epically stunning, thanks to the loyal GOP power base and the ever spinning MSM. Instead we have a truly hollow shell, transparent, colorless, sad, but obstinacy devoid of faith.

Oh yes, I could stomach the GOP Convention last night, listening on the car radio. The sad humor of Bush's canned, desultory rehash of bored talking points((11 only once???)probably reflecting his real involvement in disaster relief, his excuse for not having to do his performance in even more disastrously boring form live. And Laura was there live, in a manner of speaking, to do something completely pointless or other more to over protest her loyalty to Georgie than anything else.

And Fred, Thompson, whose gravelly voice morphed into a Bill Cosby routine sans jokes. Hey, hey, hey it's Droopy! The scattered cheers for this sadness restored the humor of the situation though.

There's payback, there's schaudenfeude and there is just plain awe. Yet after a brief stint I quickly turned the channel for a more palatable chicken rock channel. And went on to work.

Thanks to the GOP there is President Obama. No matter what you do from here on in Sen McCain, the rest is nonsense(and then, hopefully, silence.)

You'd think she was the second coming of the Virgin Mary or something . . . .

And how the hell do they know that McCain will be nominated "Wednesday night in a roaring roll call?" Are they going to sweeten the crowd sounds to make it sound like the house is full?
