Landmark vote sends Japanese troops to Iraq
Austalian Broadcasting Corp

The Japanese Parliament has approved plans to send ground troops to Iraq to assist in post-war reconstruction.

It will be the first deployment of Japanese troops since World War II to a country where fighting is still going on.

The BBC reports the vote in favour of the deployment represents a major political victory for the Japanese Prime Minister, Junichiro Koizumi, who had staked his political future on getting it through.

Opposition parties fought bitterly against the bill, saying it breached the Japanese constitution.

The constitution forbids the use of military forces, except for defence. ---

That should be interesting.

7. Will?
Will Japan rearm?

Will Japan build some fission/fusion weapons of mass destruction?

Will the Koreans, North and South get nervous with Japan's rapid re-emergence as a super power?

Will China get nervous concerning the new and improved Japan.

Will the Iraqi people get upset with having men of another race and strange
religions occupying their country?

Do the mothers' of Japan care that their children are going to fight a white man's war?

Does anybody give a shit?

8. Landmark is right
Wow! Japan is a nation that went from backwards to pre-eminent in one generation in the 19th century. They were the foremost military power in the Pacific--bigger than Russia, bigger than China. For the past six decades, the pre-eminent power in that region has been us. Is the tide turning?

10. Look at this shit.
Germany and Japan were disarmed and pacified after WWII; now they are becoming more militant. Bush's ineptitude is largely the cause of this, but it's going to have reverberations that last far longer than he does. Without having a clue what he's doing, he's managing to completely reshape the international political scene, and it's for the worse.

13. 10 Prime Ministers in 11 years. No real choice for voters, LDP.
If you've ever lived there for awhile you'd find out it's just like the Southern Mafia.

(Carlos Marcello of New Orleans was actually the biggest mafia boss in the history of the US but some reason the movies are slanted toward Chicago/NY mobsters.)

Anyway, my feeling is Japan is a puppet state of the US. I've never read this anywhere, it's just my feeling. We didn't A-Bomb and then just leave. MacArthur did more than that. I think we took over their political process and many of the largest corporations we financially control thus control the Board of Directors. That's why Japan become the world's 2nd largest economy.

The people of Japan do not want the US bases in their country, period, but they're still there and it gets covered up in the media.
