McCain camp: Questions on Palin's party a 'smear'
Source: Associated Press

ST. PAUL, Minn. - John McCain's campaign said Tuesday that rival Barack Obama's campaign was spreading "smears" about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's past political affiliations. Yet, some of Palin's previous political activities are a matter of dispute.

At issue are claims by members of the Alaskan Independence Party that Palin was once associated with it. The party, some of whose members have advocated secession from the United States, wants to place all federal lands in Alaska under state control.

The McCain campaign released voter registration documents Tuesday dating to 1990 in which Palin lists herself as a Republican. Campaign spokesman Brian Rogers said Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982, and has never been a member of the Alaskan Independence Party.

1. i hope people are smart enough
to see that while the dumb ass mccain camp is saying it is the obama campaign smearing her, the very next paragraph shows clearly it is the members of AIP themselves.

they are reeling and can't even come up with a good cover. desperation is so fun to watch when it is from someone who deserves so much what they are getting.

6. What is really entertaining is
watching all the idiots saying Palin is qualified. You can see it in their faces that they sold their souls to the GOP and now they have to swallow their medicine and say whatever talking points are shoved in front of them.

8. The absolute BEST is when they start off mouthing those stupid talking points,
then a day or two later start backpedaling like mad cause no matter how stupid the talking points, they'd rather not look like total idiots themselves... I've run across a few like that so far!

11. McCain says the democrats are trying a smear campaign!!!
WHO 1 Can you imagine the 24/7 news coverage if Chelsea
Clinton was pregnant out of wedlock or at all!!!

Republicans and their corporate news media are criminals and
full of s.... Their action and policies are anti-America
toward the citizens which live here and our country's laws.

Democrats don't smear as a policy , but they should attack
lies and deceit with lies and deceit. The republicans are
the fathers of all BS , Lies , swear , deceit and propaganda
attacks.
Look how Bush/Cheney and other republicans have stolen our
elections for well over 10 years.

The sooner McCain is exposed for the liar and crook he is ,,
the better.
They news media keeps given McCain and the republicans a free
pass , they even tried to keep the news from saying McCain
made this statement.

Let’s go back to a wistful time in 1998 at a Republican Senate
fundraiser where John McCain
asked, “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is
Janet Reno.

20. The Democrats are telling the truth
and McTemper thinks it's a smear. He, just like all the Repukes in power, can't handle the truth.

If he's running the "Straight Talk Express", then why does he think the truth is a smear campaign?

13. McCain, Lincoln's Party, and Sarah Secessionist Palin
Glass-jawed right wing-nuts and McCain campaign staffers may think that Sarah Palin’s political history may be off-limits, but I don’t. Given right-wing attempts to manufacture pseudo-scandals concerning Barrack Obama’s acquaintance with one-time Weatherman and Palin’s involvement with the Alaska Independence Party, isn’t Palin’s involvement with the Alaska Independence Party open to question?

If Barrack Obama’s acquaintance with Bill Ayres is purportedly treasonous, isn’t Sarah Palin’s involvement with the Alaska Independence Party even more so? Wasn’t it Abraham Lincoln, a co-founder of John McCain’s own Republican Party, who put forth the constitutional doctrine of “One union, indivisible” and was martyred for it at Ford’s Theater? Over half a million Americans died and a swath of devastation crossed much of the country putting that doctrine into effect, too; many of us know the names where the devastation was particularly intense—Shiloh, Antietam, Gettysburg, Petersburg, Lookout Mountain. And here the rest of the nation’s readership is discovering Sarah Palin’s long flirtation with a political party that seeks to sever Alaska’s ties with the rest of the USA.

We Democrats aren’t just asking for fair play. We’re also asking about how serious today’s Republican Party really is to keeping to the principles laid down in 1776, 1788, 1861-1865, and all the years since. Considering the elements of the white supremacist and neo-Confederate movements that have quietly made their way into the GOP in recent years, we have a right to know. And that means asking Sarah Palin serious, probing questions about her politics and her recent political past.

Would you consider a person that say a nasty remark about your
child a friend.

McSame is the mother of all deceit and liars...

How in the h... can a democrat call McCain a good person or
their friend , unless they are tied to the same lobbyist and
corporations.

16. When will people wake up?
When the pukes bash Obama their just giving the facts, yet when the left suggests that Palin may have been a member of the Alaska Independent party, the right call it a smear. How dare they question the integrity and experience of a person picked to run for political office by the republicans. But blasting Obama for his lack of experience is ok. 7 years in the Illinois State Senate (serving and helping millions), 4 years in the US Senate (serving and helping hundreds of millions), worked for years with inner city development groups, brought health care to some of the poorest people in the Chicago suburbs is apparently way less experience than 4 or 5 years as a city council member, a few years as mayor of that same 8,000 person town, then a whopping year and a half as the governor of the 3rd least populated state in the country(700,000 on a full day). What was I thinking McCain should be the VP.

Who has experience, The person who has been elected to serve over 300 million people or someone who only had to worry about 700,000?

17. OK - so now you have it......................
At least two members of the AIP say she is a member..... McCain's campaign says she is not.

So who is checking - apparently they've found that her husband was a member in good standing until
2000....

So how do we find out if she was a member or if only her husband was?

The Alaskan Independence Party is not just a group of independent voters... they are an American
hating group that wants to secede from the Union...

.....................can't have a member be VP of America, if that is the case.

No wonder they're denying it...

24. It's not the pregnancy, its the coverup.
If it's true that Palin told McCain about the pregnancy and he decided to appoint her anyway, why didn't they break the story before everybody else did? Thinking that no one would notice or care is unbelievably dumb--with the accent on "unbelievably."

27. Even if she wasn't an AIP member she legitimized those nuts by speaking to them.
Even if it was via video.

I mean, how do you think the Republicans would feel if it came out that Joe Biden once sent a laudatory taped message to the American Communist Party?
