US apologises for killing Iraqi child; FBI tracks terror groups
BAGHDAD (AFP) - The US army apologised for killing an Iraqi child, as the death toll from double suicide bombings, the deadliest post-war attacks in Iraq (news - web sites), climbed to over 100.

Colonel William Mayville acknowledged that his forces were responsible Tuesday for mortar fire that killed an Iraqi boy during a major Muslim holiday as his family picnicked in the northern oil region of Kirkuk.

Mayville told a meeting with local government officials Wednesday that he had ordered an investigation into the shelling that also wounded the boy's mother and two brothers.

He said his troops had opened fire because they suspected insurgents were in the area, but that those responsible for the deadly error would be held accountable.

Mayville added that he ordered the payment of 2,500 dollars in compensation for the family of the nine-year-old boy, Basssam Sami Awwad, and 1,500 dollars for each of the three injured.

2. So money will salve the pain
for the killing of this child? How about all the other children that have been slaughtered because of Bushco's War.

3. Col.Mayville
would have been wiser to keep his mouth shut. Who should be held responsible for the 'deadly error'? Col. Mayville?

5. so we have done so very well
at "freeing" the children - remember how they couldn't even "fly kites"?

Now they can't picnic with their families or grow up.

6. What about the 1000's of others? Guess there is no apology
for those little innocents. I see their little helpless bodies in my nightmares.
