IN HIS OWN DEFENSE: CIA CHIEF PREPARES SPEECH

The Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet is planning to deliver a high-impact speech at Georgetown University tomorrow morning -- defending his agency's work on analyzing Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs!

MORE

Tenet is going public as the Senate Intelligence Committee finishes its draft report on what went wrong -- without giving Tenet a chance to testify.

The event, to be held in Gaston Hall on the Georgetown University campus in Washington D.C., is open to broadcast and print media.

The CIA director's speech will be given on the anniversary of Powell (and Tenet's) Feb 5th 2003 UN presentation.

****sorry this is Drudge....think we'll have to wait til other media pick this up???

1. Things are breaking loose
I kept not letting myself hope that the Bush gang's fascist structure would crack, but now I'm getting the feeling that it's really starting to happen.

3. Will he fall on his sword... What could he possibly say.
He cannot go there and say -my appearance with Colin should not have been interpretted as support- We told them at every turn that we thought evidence was not there- .He could go there and say -therefore I am resigning-.

4. PLEASE, GOD, let him tell the truth. The WHOLE truth.
He has to come out in defense of his department when they're under fire like this, and being positioned as the fall guy. But then again, I know better than to hope for good news from this bunch. Or anybody even remotely connected to them.

5. My bet is that Tenet takes a dive
for Bush. Then he retires to some $$nice$$ sinecure that has been prepared for him.

12. I agree...tinfoil hat time
I think this was the plan all along. First, let me acknowledge I am a LIHOP person. Who are the two holdovers in Bush's administration from Clinton? 1. Tenet-who can be conveniently blamed for the so-called intelligence failures that lead to 9/11 AND the WMD fiasco.
2. Norm Mineta - Transportation Secretary - his dept. oversees airline safety, one issue brought to the forefront on 9/11. I think these two were chosen by bush* to make easy targets for the blame should the heat ever be put on him and his administration.

15. absolutely. He goes, and the issue evaporates (in theory)
Unless someone can bring up the OSP forcefully enough. I dunno though. Tenet has been awfully slick about avoiding personal responsibility in this affair--I keep remembering him sitting right behind Powell as he lied, and Tenet didn't turn a hair, even when the stuff he didn't approve came up. He's in the fix.

11. He and his top CIA folks should resign in protest to treatment by admin
they should make it an act of outrage and leave the administration embarrassed by being responsible for wreaking the US intelligence capability.

7. My bet: Tenet seeks the Middle Path
Says enough to defend himself and slightly goo Bush & Cronies, but not enough to really upset any apple carts.

More mush, in other words.

13. Middle path I agree with a But
What if anything does the headlines from Great Britan have on this matter? They are shouting now from the rooftops that Blair over-ruled what the Intel people stated.
Are our spooks involved in a double tag team effort with the britspys vs the chimp and poodle? Please, please, please let this be true hehe:)

8. My bet: It's all Saddam's fault
He played a shell game, he bluffed and made us think he had the weapons. It's not our fault about the war, he made us do it!

I'm going to lock this one. We really prefer not to use drudge as a news source.
