1. Ain't that sweet.
Scared of what would happen if he didn't?

Not that it matters. He still isn't turning over any documents.

13. "Ain't it sweet" took the words right out of my mouth. "Now isn't that
special" also came to mind.

7. to be released July 26th heat of the summer/vacation time
They are hoping it dies from a lack of attention. Anyone who brings it up later will be painted as "politicizing 9/11" the irony will be as thick as the humidity at that point.

3. Why?
I don't get this one. Why would he agree unless he knows the findings will come out in his favor. I hope I'm wrong and he just caved into the pressure.

10. I think he had to cave
He (or Rove) figured out how bad it's going to look if they don't grant the extension. They're gambling that 60 days won't be enough time to really dig up all the dirt that would send them to jail.

5. 60 days?
what a joke = now he can stall and stall and stall and say, he gave it more time - he will never testify nor will any of his minons, because the 9-11 commission is a bunch of pussies who don't DARE to use their supoena power on the powerful - WHAT WAS IN THE AUG. 6TH BRIEFING? HUH? THAT'S WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW.

6. 60 whole days, how generous. Gonna cough up some documents?
I suppose he will continue to give them nothing to work with, but will be able to say he 'cooperated' with them

:puke:

they really need to somehow get some extra-marital sex into their report, it's the only way the Repubes will give them the time and money they need to do the job.

Imagine how effective this 9/11 panel would be if they had the same time limit as Whitewater, along with the Whitewater money, subpoena power, etc.

priorities...

9. Why? IMO
Because the fix is in. Or they are planning another invasion that will occur at the time of the deadline. Remember the "spring offensinve"

21. Not likely.
Bush has destroyed the Army. We can bomb anywhere ,but invasion is not possible. A Bush 2nd term is a draft assured.

19. Can you say Capitulation?
I thought you could :)

Next up: The Iraq WMD panel - the President can not be allowed to pick the panel members nor can he be allowed to define the scope and scale of the investigation. Otherwise it will not be an "independent" investigation...duh

Bush Backs More Time for 9/11 Panel Report
By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) reversed himself Wednesday and said he now supports giving a commission investigating the 9/11 attacks more time to produce a final report.

The commission is scheduled to finish its work on May 27. But panel members last month asked Congress for a two-month extension, citing a need for full analysis of reams of documents about the disaster.

Bush had resisted that request for months, saying through his spokesmen that the administration wanted the panel to complete its work as soon as possible. Privately, White House aides feared that delaying the commission's final report would result in a potentially damaging assessment of the administration's handling of pre-attack intelligence in the heat of a presidential campaign.

On Wednesday, the White House relented, saying it backed moving the deadline to July 26. But White House spokesman Scott McClellan also urged the commission to wrap up its work 30 days after that. If Congress accepts Bush's recommendation, the report would arrive at the end of August, just as the presidential campaign is entering the post-Labor Day final stretch.

22. What the heck is up...
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 05:55 PM by Hornito
with Lieberman and McCain, sponsoring legislation to extend the panel's deadline to Jan. of 2005? Now why would Lieberman do that, and give Bush a chance to put this off until AFTER the elections? I swear, I don't trust Lieberman any farther than I could throw him. I think he knows some of what's going on here (and so does McCain), and is working in concert with those who are going to try and "pull a Hutton" on the 9/11 report.

Watch these guys pass a bill extending it to Jan./05, under the auspices of the commission needing more time to "insure a complete report, in the intrests of national security". Bush would risk looking overtly political had he proposed such an extension, so of course, he has Joe and John do it for him.

This smells, and so does Joe and John.

On edit: Think there's a chance Bush did this because he's got Osama in a spider hole somewhere, timed to come out the same day as the report?????
