Gallup Daily: Obama - Biden Ticket Leads by 6 Points
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 12:40 PM by Mark E. Smith
Source: Gallup

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup Poll Daily tracking from Aug. 28-30, including two days of interviewing since the close of the
Democratic National Convention, finds Barack Obama with a six percentage point lead over John McCain in the presidential
contest, 48% to 42%.

Though slightly down from the eight point lead Obama held mid-convention, this represents a clear improvement for the
Democratic candidate's positioning in the campaign compared to a week ago when the race was tied.

As the recent trend shows, Obama did not gain any additional support in the poll since his generally well-reviewed
acceptance speech on Thursday night. However, the Aug. 28-30 field period also includes two days of interviewing
since the Friday morning announcement by McCain that he has chosen Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to join him on the
Republican ticket.

Well there you have it. The Palin bounce is in, and it is within the margin of error.

1. I'm stoked!
Especially after the Palin-fest the MSM has been having. I would have figured a McCain bump since what I'm hearing is that Palin is the Hail Mary pass that John McCain both threw and then ran down the length of the football field to catch. Yay!

2. Holiday weekend
I really wonder how much coverage the McCain people are missing out on because of the holiday weekend -- folks are traveling, TVs are off, newspapers are going unread.

16. Zogby's is an online poll -- and the only one that shows a McSame lead
Everything shows Obama ahead or even. The GOP is going to lose bigtime.

3. The nomiation served its purpose - bumped Obama's spectacular speech
off of the news. Now the campaign will have to pay to air it as ads. Hopefully Obama's people have something big planned for immediately following or even DURING McSame's lame speech this week.

5. Perhaps a trip to New Orleans for cleanup???
At any rate that's what I'd do if I were them and Rethuglican wasps were hovering around St. Paul.

4. The Palin bouncelet will fade in the next 2 days.
Then McCain will be down and have Palin as his running mate (and apparently soulmate).

8. A "dead cat" bounce
Meaning a minimal short-lived bounce, with no repeat, and poll numbers reverting to where they were before. BTW - I love cats!

6. The media agenda doesn't seem so powerful to me right now.
It doesn't matter to me that the media didn't talk about the Obama speech for two days. What's important is that over 40 million people watched it, and the reviews were spectacular. Actually we have no idea just how many people did watch it since I wasn't counted as a C-Span watcher. PBS watchers weren't counted either. A massive number of Americans heard Barack Obama and that's the really big deal here.

7. The media is pissed. They were hoping for an unsuccessful Dem convention.
They'll be shoving Palin's "qualifications" down our throats for the next three months.

Prepare to be taught how a Wasilla City Council member wields more power than an Illinois state senator.

10. Another view
Bounce vs. long term. McBush reinvigorated the short term shock of the Dem Convention with his own short term shock. It takes TIME for real solid public opinion to coalesce. The GOP is very willing to toss disasters and screws into the mix merely to cloud the longer term polling. Be prepared for a roller coaster much more dramatic than Chimpy's attempt to keep his poll numbers from permanently tanking into the red zone.

Removing the smoke, it appears that every GOP event or move represents a crisis, far more so than Hillary's moves to shake up the game, survive and whittle away. The game will be to at least obfuscate public opinion to NEVER admit that Obama is comfortably leading...in the polls, although a powerful general realization is sinking in solidly that, yes, he is the best and that yes, he is sure to win.
The kind of cheering and hope we see from the RW fundamentalists is a familiar sight to those of us who were constantly in hope of Mondale of Dukakis pulling it out and the other side who might remember Goldwater and Dole true believers. Only sillier, less rational.

Thank God, the GOP is crooked to the core(satire alert), a dangerous animal cornered not a gentlemanly democratic foe, or we might contemplate complacency. We must never be complacent there will be any mitigation of desperate and deadly moves- or the smokescreen of lies- until the last vote makes it through their gauntlet of fraud.

18. how stupid are the voters really?
a 6 poing bounce is better than no bounce, but it still means 42% of the registered/likely voters are for mccain/palin. Only the top couple of percent of the top 2 percent of the country could possibily benefit from repug policies. the vast majority of the 42% of gop supporters will pay more under mccain, continue to suffer from a bad economy, likely get drafted or see people they care about get drafted, have limited access to health care, and continue to be hated by the world - who will no longer visit the US (restaurants and retailers suffer).

what the fuck are they supporting bush for?

they're totally idiots.
