Boeing To Eliminate 300 Jobs (San Antonio)
San Antonio — Boeing Co. said Tuesday that it would cut 300 jobs at its aircraft maintenance facility in San Antonio because of cutbacks in the work it does for the Air Force.

Boeing officials said the layoffs at the former Kelly Air Force Base, now a city-run industrial park known as KellyUSA, were largely a result of cutbacks in the aircraft maintenance work it performed for the Air Force.

"The actions we have put in place, while difficult, will help us sustain successful operations in San Antonio in the face of an increasingly competitive business environment," Boeing said.

The cuts include managers, administrative workers, mechanics and shop laborers."

1. In this bush economy the unemployed are now called self employed..
they can babysit, cut lawns, or perhaps become
retailers by selling all their belongings.

2. this is good evidence that there is NO recovery
If the only market is defense and security, and the only client that can afford services is the government, well, logically that means that the private sector is, in fact, NOT booming, otherwise there would be other clients and Boeing woulnd't have to lay people off because a Bush crony has taken over Air Force maintenance.

Just a thought...

5. More evidence of chimpy's economic miracle.
From yesterdays Philadelphia Inquirer. I just hope that this great economy doesn't go down the tubes or we'll all be in trouble.
