Utah House wants America out of U.N.

Utah House wants America out of U.N.
Associated Press

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah House of Representatives voted Monday to urge Congress to withdraw from the United Nations, asserting the organization was a threat to American sovereignty.

The nonbinding resolution, which passed 42-33, favors "freeing the nation from a large financial burden and retaining the nation's sovereignty to decide what is best for the nation and determine what steps it considers appropriate as the leader of the free world in full control of its armed forces and destiny."

It was a victory for state Rep. Don Bush, who for years has been trying to find approval for a resolution expressing Utah's will to the president and Congress. (snip)

Some of Utah's conservative Republicans have long harbored fears that the U.N. was plotting to take over this country, do away with freedom, create a world government and levy a global tax.
(snip/...)

1. Is Timothy McVeigh a member of the Utah House?
This is about as crazy and far right as you can get.

It's amazing that this would be real in the year 2004. Maybe the article is from the Onion?

2. What financial burden?
When was the last time we paid our UN dues?

What we really need is a law requiring state legislatures to perform basic research before proposing bonehead resolutions.

5. Large financial burden?
Have they ever taken a gander at the federal budget, for cryin out loud? If we Americans really want to free up some Bingo money for ourselves, we need to start with the Dept. of Defense and the cash toilet a.k.a. the Invasion of Iraq.

7. This notion is shared
by the nutcase that runs the junkyard down the highway.

Or at least that's what I think the sign says... it's written in hubcaps, and his spelling is sub-par. :eyes:

11. well, ain't that special
Utah has gone and outdone itself in the stupid department.

I'm certain that they were right behind *Co when he declared the UN irrelevant.

And now they would like the USoA to become a rogue nation possessing WMDs.
