White House Defends Bush's Guard Service During War
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040203/pl_nm/campaign_bush_dc&cid=615&ncid=2043

I just wrote the White House and asked them to come clean in Bush's record. I said the issue was not whether he was honorably discharged, the issue was whether he attended the required drills when he was in Alabama.

Now you write!!!!

1. Good to see them on the defensive, but...
...McAuliffe flapping his trap about Kerry's "chest full of medals" is the wrong message to send to a nation that is binging on militarism.

We should be apologizing to Iraq for invading it and rebuilding the shattered lives we've caused -- not going around thumping our chests about military heroism.

2. the other liability about Kerry's "chest full of medals"
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 08:56 PM by Alpharetta
is the story that he doesn't have those medals any more, he threw them over the fence in protest.

or the story that he does have the medals, because he borrowed somebody else's medals to throw.

I have heard those stories but I have not yet had to respond to them. If I did have to respond, it likely would be

His daddy didn't give him those medals. He earned them. I don't care what he did with his medals.

==

regardless, I agree, I'd rather not be talking about medals.

3. He could have gotton duplicates of the medals
in the years since he threw them away. My dad's medals were lost in a move and his mother nagged him into getting copies of them.

4. Kerry didn't throw his medals anywhere
he threw the ribbons.

The ribbons adorn the uniform.

The medals, accompanied with a citation, are given to soldiers for safekeeping, viewing, etc.

The ribbons are part of the packet, but they are to be worn on the uniform.

5. Whatever it takes to win in November
>We should be apologizing to Iraq for invading it and rebuilding the >shattered lives we've caused -- not going around thumping our chests >about military heroism.

That can come after we win in November. For now if "chest full of medals" rhetoric will get Kerry, Clark or whoever the votes needed to win, I say we do whatever it takes.

6. Believe it or not, the chest of medals counts a lot
there are millions upon millions of former servicemen and women and current service men and women and it is an issue that needs to be brought up. One man, the current president ran from his duty.
A chest of medals meand a lot..Kerry SERVED his country and was shot performing that service...A chest of medals means everything.
