that our house? This secrecy is an attempt to project the image that this misadministration is in contol when they are not. Honesty is in very short supply here. If ricin is possible for the highly secure areas of our country then what about those like ours who are not. These elected civil servants owe this information to us. To not tell the people is dereliction of duty pure and simple. This if true, is completely outrageous.

10. In January AP reported an October 2003 delivery of Ricin in SC
Though I never saw nor heard it myself. I found this mention at talkingpointsmemo.com today.

Anyway, here's the link to the story:

Feds Plead For Ricin Leads

GREENVILLE, S.C., Jan. 9, 2004

(Photo: AP)

Death from ricin can come between 36 and 72 hours after exposure. There is no antidote.

Last year, traces of the deadly poison ricin were found in a London apartment. (Photo: AP)

(CBS/AP) The FBI on Thursday offered a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to an arrest of anyone responsible for leaving a package containing the deadly poison ricin at a post office in October.

A letter inside the package said the author could make much more ricin and will "start dumping" large quantities of the poison if new federal trucking rules went in effect, according to information released by the FBI and other federal agencies Thursday.

The rules, which require more rest hours for truck drivers, took effect Sunday.

The letter, signed "Fallen Angel," said the author was "a fleet owner of a tanker company."

No suspects have been arrested and no illnesses have been reported since the package was found Oct. 15 at the postal facility serving Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. The postal center was temporarily closed while health officials tested it. No signs of contamination were found.

Something deep inside me tells me that someone on the "inside" of bio-terror issue is trying to point out our vulnerability without getting fired. Bush is doing little or nothing to secure our country and our borders.

11. doesn't ricin need to be ingested to be effective?
It's my understanding that you can't be poisoned from ricin by merely coming into contact with it. Am I wrong on this?

28. Ricin is toxic by ingestion or inhalation...
I'm not sure how toxic it would be if you just got some dry power on your skin, or whether it is absorbed into the skin if the dry powder is moistened.

desperation. He is going down , down when this type of shallow propaganda has to be foisted on the American people.

If this does not work, look to see a more "bold" assassination attemnpt on the life of the boy wonder. Hell, we may eve see a fake shoot em up, if that is what Rove thinks it will take.

38. We're not safer because these traitors have not been deposed.
I assure you, send these men and women to the Hague, and our safety level shoots up.

The only way we will regain any of the world's respect and a modicum of trust is if we, when push comes to shove, do what must be done to ensure these criminals are no longer in power.

That time is coming. The election - or lack thereof - will be a watershed event. Mark my words. The b*sh administration must be removed, and whichever elite-preferred candidate replaces him must be watched very carefully. We will still have many battles to fight, even once b*sh is gone.

30. Link - SS kept it secret from FBI etc.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/washpost/20040204/ts_washpost/a8403_2004feb3&e=3

<snip>
But the existence of a similar letter sent to the White House was not disclosed until yesterday, and then only by law enforcement officials who asked not to be identified by name.

Six sources in law enforcement and public health said the Secret Service did not immediately inform the FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service or other agencies about the White House letter when it was discovered. Three of those sources said the delay lasted "weeks," while a fourth recalled a lag of about nine days. Several said the delay was long enough that anyone exposed to the ricin would have begun to show symptoms.

Are they suspecting an inside job (an assassination attempt from inside the gov't)? Why else would they keep it from the FBI???:shrug:

32. two interesting quotes from that link:
"It was . . . determined that there was no public health risk because of the low potency and granular form of the substance," the official said.

<snip>

Some Senate aides criticized the Bush administration for not disclosing the White House letter sooner. "This shows that their obsession for secrecy is more powerful than their regard for the safety of their colleagues on Capitol Hill," one Democratic leadership aide said.

40. I knew I would find scatter-brained conspiracy theory here
IIRC, in 2001 when the anthrax mail attacks occurred, the intended victims were Sens. Leahy and Daschle, both Democrats, and this proved the GOP or some of its evil minions were behind it. This time, it's Senate Majority Leader Frist (and in Nov., the White House itself), and this too proves GOP complicity. Sure, Frist wasn't actually exposed, but then neither were Daschle and Leahy.

In general, I find DU'ers to be highly intelligent. But I guess there a few looneys in every crowd.
